Sumup Card readers

Hi,

I’m considering getting a card reader for using at Fayres - is the one on offer for Folksy members with Sumup a good deal with 1.95% charge per transaction?

I have used SumUp for ages and find them very good. I like the fact it is Uk based.

Oh that’s good to know - I didn’t realise they were UK based - that’s reassuring,
Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Been using Sum up for a while - no problems. Thought the rate was 1.69% though.

I had a bad experience with sumup a number of years back - without warning the older style swipe and sign machines (which is what I had and it was only 18 months old) stopped working as they wanted everyone to switch to the new chip and pin machines. No warning, no special offer to buy the new machine, the one I had just stopped working (I wasn’t the only one caught out and it happened during the christmas market season).
I switched to iZettle (now just Zettle since it was taken over by paypal), 1.75% per card transaction, no monthly fee - never had any issues with them and when they wanted us to upgrade to a reader that would take payments from phones/ smart watches etc as well as cards they offered the new machine at half price (my old machine continued to work until I dropped it one too many times and then I used the offer to upgrade).

That is odd as got a special deal with an upgrade.

Maybe they learnt from the fiasco - a lot of people I know left them because of it. If they had communicated that the old style machines would no longer work after a certain date and incentivised buying the new machine then I probably would have stayed with them but as it is I won’t go back to them.

Funnily enough Sasha @SashaGarrett I started with izettle and switched to sumup due to a similar situation that you had - my izettle stopped working and was told it had been superseded and that I had to buy a new one … also in the middle of Christmas season!! I guess they are all as good/bad as each other

Thanks for all the information - I think it said 1.95% somewhere but I also saw reference to 1.69% too - maybe it is 1.69%…

BTW did you know if you have an iPhone you can use the sum up app to set up Tap to Pay on your phone - don’t even need to get a card machine. Not used it myself but might be worth looking as you could try it without getting the card machine and only pay the 1.69% transaction fee

Yes I have the app on my iPhone and have used the tap to pay bit. Very useful. Plus airdrop helps as well.

Thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Sum Up has been great for me. Pays out very quickly and not much commission taken . :art:

Oh great, thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Same here and my Sumup has never faltered since I bought it in an emegency the day before a big market when its predecessor threw a hissy fit and said I had damaged it (in its bag in its box in its safe cool dry place untouched for 4 months !!)

I use sum up, the one you link to your phone. Only problem I have had is one fair the phone app randomly connected with another stallholders device, very confusing! Needs a good WiFi connection though, so only really for indoor events.

Oh thanks for that - I’ll keep an eye for that! thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

Mine works quite happily off my mobile signal

Oh good, thank you :slightly_smiling_face:

I’ve also been using SumUp for a few years now! I also find it handy that I can create invoices on their website within my account to send to wholesale buyers!!
