Tags Truncated

Does anyone have the same problem as me (and if so how do you rectify it?) My last tag always seems to have the end chopped off it, for example naive illustration, will come out as ‘naive illu’ or on one, terracotta painting, it is just showing as ‘ter’ what happened to that one - just three letters left? Am I doing something wrong, or is this just a Folksy glitch we live with?

I think someone else asked about this before and I seem to remember that as well as a limit to how many tags, there is a limit to how many characters in total you are allowed. There is an old thread about this somewhere, or it was mentioned somewhere… I will have a look!

Here is the thread:

A few posts down @SashaGarrett explains it!

Ah - total character limit … that must be it. Thank you so much.

As Kirsty says, there seems to be a limit to the number of characters, and the same goes for the title of your item too. It’s a matter of trial and error to find what you can fit in, as the number of characters doesn’t seem to be stated anywhere.

Thanks for remembering my previous explanation @KirstyMacdonaldQuilts

In case any one is interested, it is also important to remember that as well as Folksy having total character limits for things like titles/ description/ tags, external search engines (eg google) will also have their own character limit/ preferences that they will read/ show in search results. So for titles Folksy might let us have eg 100 characters (sorry i don’t know what that limit actually is, I’ve picked 100 to illustrate my point) google will only read and show the first 60-70 characters in the search results and anything over that gets demoted (that recently increased from 56 characters) so it is worth sticking to google’s limit even though folksy lets us have more. There are similar considerations for descriptions.

Me too! :grinning:

Gosh on doing this reply @KirstyMacdonaldQuilts trying to post the above, it said body too short must be 10 characters!
So now I have learnt that too!

Also still haven’t got the hang of direct reply to the person sorry!

Yes, I’ve been having this problem too. I didn’t realise there was a total number of characters limit… I did report the problem to Folksy, so I’ll see if they say that’s the issue.

@heatherandhome Looking at your items it will be. The total tag character limit is 255 (including the commas to separate tags). If you have a mix of single and multi word tags you’re unlikely to hit it, but if all of your tags are 2-3 words, you might.

No I get that a lot. I’d like to know the answer to that one too
