Using Pinterest for promotion

Hi,

I’ve used Pinterest for inspiration for a while and my daughter uses it all the time for pinning stuff about Korean pop stars(?!). The thing is I’ve been trying to figure out how to use it to promote my work but I’m not sure how to do it. I assume that loads of people gere use it successfully and wondered if you had any advice please?

Many thanks

Bex x

Hi Bex,

Well I’m on Pinterest, I have pinterest boards for my shops, some for folksy and handmade boards. I also have lots of other boards full of stuff but that’s about all I know, like you, I keep thinking there must be a magic way of using it to promote but I haven’t found it yet. I look forward to seeing the replies to your question.

I traced how someone got to a piece of mine the other day just after I soid it and it was via Pinterest so it obviously does something.
I have a set of boards on there for my Folksy things and when I list a new design I pin it, from my Folksy listing to the appropriate board. This means if someone finds it on Pinterest and clicks it they will be taken to the listing in my shop.
The downside is that I only pin the first of a design so anyone clicking is likely to be told it is unavailable if that first one has sold, even though I may have a similar, same design …ideally I would replace each pin with the latest as I list but I don’t have time so that’s the way it is.
Hope this helps.
This is me on Pinterest

Pinterest is useful for getting you further up in google search results albeit on a pinterest board rather than the actual product listing so it is reliant on people clicking through (have a read of this to see what I mean https://kimgarst.com/the-secret-to-getting-rankings-on-google-using-pinterest). The key looks like regularly adding items to a strongly themed board. The down side (if you are making one offs) is that it is older and potentially sold out items that end up ranking higher than new still available items as they have had longer to build up the network of links through repinning (google likes things that have networks linking to it) so, as Joy said, people end up on a sold out listing and might not look further into the shop.

Bex, my friend’s daughter, who is only 15, paints pictures of Korean pop stars - it must be the thing at the moment! She is an amazing artist for her age. This is one of her pictures. She calls herself Artoulli.

That painting is amazing!

Re: Pinterest. I make themed Folksy boards with lots of people’s stuff on them, like this one:-

I delete them after 6 - 12 months or so to avoid the ‘sold out’ problem.

I also have one board of my own work.

And post to the following boards, which anyone can pin to (just contact the person in charge to get added to the list of pinners).

If you pin to the multi-user boards, you should re-pin the same number of pins of other people’s work to another board, just to help promote everyone’s work a bit.

I figure that, if you have the time, you have nothing to loose by trying it! Good luck!

Thanks Sasha, that’s a really interesting link. Turnover is always a concern, such a balance between not selling enough and selling too many!

That’s amazing, and at only 15! K-pop is so popular at the moment, I’m far too old to understand but my daughter’s room is covered in pictures of Korean boys, it could be worse :grinning:

That’s really useful, thanks Joy.

Hi, I joined a group board, and was accepted, but don’t know how to find the board or pin on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.xxx

if you want to pin to it from your shop just go to an item in your shop and then click on the pin icon and it will automaticially bring up your pinterest account with the name of all your pinterest boards you then click the one you want and it pins it there for you.
