Hi Ya, I have some products that have colour variations, which have I hold quantity of, some are 3 or 5, there does not seem to add the quantity for each colour, just the over all quantity for the product. I sold a greeting card yesterday (on another site) I have 3 of each colour, ie 3 pink, 3 blue and 3 green, so I sold a pink one, as I can’t find a way to edit the quantity for the pink card, I have to edit the overall quantity down to 2. So the only way to get an accurate stock is to list the variations as separate listings. All the other platforms I’ve sold on you can have quantities for each variation and you can link a image for each variation , so when a customer clicks on the green variation, the green image is shown. Also when you have sold out of a certain colour, that colour is grayed out and can’t be chosen.
Sorry no quantities against variations at present, we have asked for this though.
I get around this by putting the quanitity available (or “sold out”) in brackets after the description of the option. It doesn’t always work as people who want a sold out item sometimes still order it, but at least you can then open dialogue with them, I suppose!
Where this is an issue, I just list them seperately as it doesn’t cost any more with a plus account.
Yes, I have a Plus account, so I might have to do separate listings as well
This is so frustrating isn’t it? I have multiple items in each variation, but only have 1 print of each. I’ve been in conversations with folksy staff about this recently as I keep being asked by customers as to why they have to pay 2 shipping charges as I can only list the overall quantity as 1. Yes I can list them all separately, but I will have to re photo literally hundreds of listings and to be honest I prefer to have a multiple listing than all singles.
I have been advised they have no plans to implement this for us.
My work around is to put the quantity at 2 and have a disclaimer in my listing by stating I only have 1 of each print available. Not perfect by any stretch of imagination, but at least customers can buy a couple if they wish!
The shipping cost solution is so simple I am amazed Folksy did not tell you. Simply set additional cost to zero on all your listings and it will only charge postage for 1 however many they buy.
PS I see you use additional item cost in your shipping so can only conclude i am completely misunderstanding what you are trying to say
The problem is my listing has say 20 prints, but I only have 1 of each print available. listing quantity therefore must be set at 1. A customer wants to buy 2 different prints in that listing, checkout will only allow them to select 1 as that is what my listing says I have available. Therefore the only possible way for them to purchase is to buy 1 print, then after I have relisted go back and purchase the second, therefore incurring a full second postage price.
On other platforms I sell I often send out multiple purchases to customers from variations so it does leave me wondering how many sales we miss out on here because of the lack of that option.
I use the “Choose Options” button for the buyer to say how many they want to buy. The listing below is an example of how I set it up. The disadvantage is that as I set the number as 1 - meaning there is 1 purchase available, (and that purchase can be of 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 items), the Folksy bold writing of “ only 1 available” comes up, implying there is only one left. Thus I incorporated the fact that there are 5 into the heading. But as you are a plus member, and would pay no more for setting the number as 5 and therefore the number would say 5 available that wouldnt be an issue for you.
It does take a while to get your head around the way Folksy differs to another platform in the area of listing quantities and choices. I am not sure one system is any better than the other , they are just different.
Think about how easy it will be for 5e customer to order. Not easy for us. Sadly with quantities not appearing, I list individually.
You’ve certainly cracked one good way to do it! Thank you for sharing that, Liz - very helpful for me at least
Lois - here is another example that might help you. Not my shop, just came across it and noticed that they had incorporated several different choices under the choose options ( size, colour, postage ) and thought it might help you if you are aiming to incorporate both colour and quantity. As a plus member, this example has a quantity of 5, which makes sense as they have 5 different colours available - even though within that they also do each colour in each size, making a lot of possible combinations.
@TwistedbytheSea - hope you didnt mind me using your item as an example. I just saw it not long after I had been reading Lois’s post and thought it might help. I assumed you wouldnt mind the extra publicity!
My difficulty is the workshops I run.
I can have multiple dates, each with limited spaces. Eg, for a sewing machine based class, I stick to 4 people. However, I run weekly classes, so 4 weeks with 4 people is 16. I don’t dare list 16 spots as hell may freeze over and 8 people book to attend one class…..
I can do it separately as I’m a plus seller, but a little more flexibility with the variations could be very useful indeed.
Thanks though, I shall spend a little time thos weekend seeing if I can make it work better for me.
@samazama I don’t mind at all, I have struggled a bit with the variations here, with postage been very limited - I actually pinched the postage idea from another seller, and it works because people do pick other options. I actually offer more than 20 colours so the 20 limit is unhelpful. Wonder if @folksy are able to extend quantities available to more than 20
