Weekly Art Chat 14th - 20th April 2014

Margaret, “mount solutions” are brilliant and very efficient as well.
Happy Easter everyone…enjoy your day

I’m about to look on ebay to check them out.

In the meantime, here’s another go at framing my poppies using the mount that came with it. which I’ve painted blue

Has anyone any advice for this Fine Art photographer who is asking for help?

I am not sure what the person is asking for Margaret…I presume they have a folksy shop and apart from chatting on the forums, I don’t see what else they can do…(Trevor watch out…lol)…they seem to be promoting quite a lot.

Can’t offer much help, but promotion is clearly the key, as Brenda says.

I’ve just listed this ACEO of a Cornish Tin Mine…

That’s fab Pam. The blue picks out the sea in the distance nicely Margaret though I can see it’s still a bit too wide, I wonder if a double mount would help fill in the gaps for you and add interest with distracting from your needlework

Good idea Max, I’ll work on that idea.

Lovely tin mine Pam.

I was trying to encourage the photographer to join us but I think he’s busy with his own threads!lol

waving everyone

Lovely seascape Stephie and a great ACEO Pam

Poppies look glorious Margaret, I agree with Max, I like the frame, maybe investing in a double mount cut to size would work, but I have to say mounts can be expensive though, I get some of mine from an online company based in Cornwall, they are great quality but a bit pricey for large ones, I paid nearly £20 for a double mount to fit a 16 x 20 frame recently … picture looks great in the mount though !!!

Hope you are all having a great Easter

Hazel

Good grief what has happened here, I go away for a little while and whoooah everything is upside down, I am too old and my brain can’t catch up!

HI Janice, nice to see you on here  It won’t take long for your brain to get around the new forum, a couple of days and you’ll be zipping around.

Fab tin mine Pam - I have one of those on my to-paint list, I have some photos somewhere from our many Cornish hols.

Margaret I’m not sure about a double mount, there’s not a lot of room top and bottom. Maybe a super-thick single mount would look better? I’m not sure where to buy those from though, might be a tad on the pricey side.

Hi Janice glad you found your way here.

Stephie, I’m going to leave it with the blue mount for now and keep an eye out for a more suitable frame. I’m quite enjoying looking in all the charity shops for frames and I’ll make sure I have the measurements next time.

That’s a very pretty butterfly Brenda.

It is indeed a very pretty butterfly Brenda,

I’ve been finishing off a doorway painting from Wendy Jelbert’s book. I’m not particularly pleased with it but I wanted to prove I’ve actually been painting!

Why aren’t you pleased with it? It’s a really pretty painting, Margaret!
Lovely butterfly painting, too, Brenda.

It seems a bit dauby to me. That’s probably a word I just made up!lol Splodges of colour at random daubed on without much real effort put in. That’s why I’m not pleased with it, I know I can do better…

Thanks for liking it though Pam. I get very frustrated at not having much time to paint anything properly.

There is nothing wrong wth a bit of ’ daub ’ Margaret!
It adds a bit of texture to the work, I like your ’ daubing painting '
Love the pretty butterfly Brenda! x x

You’re probably not pleased because you’re comparing itwith the demo Iin the book.Take the book away and come back to it tomorrow and you’ll see that you have created a very pretty scene.

Margaret, that is lovely…put it away and look at it in a new light tomorrow…you will see how good it is then…
