What do you think? Advice please!

I am after opinions please! Another seller (from another site) who is just starting out printing cards from a home printer. She has asked me (very nicely) if I would tell her where I get my card blanks from. I feel a bit put out to be asked because I worked very hard researching and testing the right product for me and wouldn’t dreamt of asking another seller for that info. Am I being a bit mean? I think we have a lovely supportive community and would help others with advice gladly, but feel this is a bit cheeky. What do you think?

If you don’t want to tell her directly then I wouldn’t worry too much - tell her there are loads of places on the internet and in high street shops where you can buy card blanks of varying quality and price. If she is just starting out then I would maybe tell her that the thickness and quality of the card she needs may be dependent on the printer she has as some printers cant handle the thicker card and the inks behave differently on different card for different printers and therefore your card blanks may not be suitable for her and she is best doing her own research. I know sometimes if you have spent a lot of time working on a technique or researching materials you really don’t want to hand over the information lock, stock and barrel!

** I posted this on another thread a couple of weeks ago (easier to copy and paste than to re-type!) xx

I’ve been asked on the dark side by a seller (another knitter) what make of wool do I use for my items and the colour names and numbers, I just ignored the email, until they also joined Folksy and started selling here and emailed me again through here.

I sent a nice email back, but did say that as another knitwear designer, I’m sure you will understand that I don’t want to give away my trade secrets as I put a lot of time, thought and effort into them. They replied and said they understand.

I spend AGES searching for the right yarns and testing them out first and think that if people are serious about selling, then they also need to do some groundwork themselves (no matter how flattering they are about your work!) especially if they are going to be selling the same things as you.

I agree with the others and what card stock works for you may not be right for her. I also had the same question a while ago and I didn’t want to advise what to buy only for them not to be happy with it and yes it all depends what she’s printing and her printer. It’s all trial and error, something we just have to do ourselves really.
