Okay… so I admit it… I am a compulsive shopper and keep buying craft supplies for projects I am planning that I never quite get round to. I now have a whole house full of supplies that I will never get round to using (sigh) so I am planning to make a ‘craft supplies’ category in my shop and sell off my excess materials.
The question I have is what is the best way to list this? Lots of small quantities of the same item (and buyer can buy more than 1 of they want big quantities), mixed bundles, or small bundles of the same type item but with a bit of variety? I’m a folksy plus seller so I can do as many listings as needed, but I can’t think how to do the postage - basically if someone wants to buy lots of bits and bobs I want to offer a flat price for postage (up to a certain weight), rather than postage per item. Is this even possible?!?!?!
Small parcel is up to 45cm by 16cm by 35cm and up to 2kg for £3.49 (2nd class) so you should be ok to put £3.75 (I’ve added a bit for packing supplies) as the postage and then 0 in the additional items box for all the supplies. 2kg should cover quite a lot of supplies or if they don’t order very much send it as first class (1st class large letter £3.30). If it’s over 2kg it has to go as a medium parcel which has a big price jump to £7 so if you have any heavy supplies you might want / need to set the base postage cost as £7 with additional items as 0 (medium parcel covers upto 20kg).
That’s what I want to do, but I think that the extra item at .0p only applies if they buy more than one of the same item/listing? If they order 3 seperate items from 3 separate listings, I think it will charge them 3 lots of postage? Has anyone tried to order lots of different things from the same shop, and if so, did it offer combined postage or did the seller have to adjust it manually?
Everything in my shop is a one off and I have the additional item postage set at 0 - when people have bought multiples (ie several different items) they have only been charged one postage cost. You need to have 0 in the additional item box or they will get charged multiple lots of postage.
Ps you can always set up a few listings and then ask on the forum for someone to try putting them in a basket and report back how much postage it wants to charge. The items might not come back out of the basket
Hi Natalie, as Sasha said, you will need to actually enter the number 0 in the additional item cost so they don’t get charged the postage for every item. If you leave the field blank, it doesn’t count as 0, so in this case, postage will be charged for every item they buy. I mistakenly left that blank for a few listings thinking it was the same as setting at 0, but it’s not. It also refers to any extra item they buy from your shop, not only from the same listing.
Any idea what happens if they purchase 1 item with postage at £1.15 and another item that is bigger at £2.75. Does it automatically charge the higher price? Also, if they buy lots of little items, it pushes the postage price up based on weight, so how do you compensate for that?
Thanks
Nat
It will automatically charge the higher postage cost. It won’t make allowances for lots of small items being ordered that is when you would need to put an amount in the additional items box.
