Whilst I have had a Folksy account for several years it has laid dormant. I have finally decided to be more proactive!
I have a couple of queries for starters (I suspect there will be more!)
Is there a particular time of day when it is better to post new items for sale?
Is it better to upload a ‘batch’ of items at the same time or ‘drip feed’ new items over a period of time?
always drip feed.
Imagine a new high street shop…people go and look in the window and see lovely items…they go back next week and the window looks the same even though it is full of lovely things.
They go back the next week…same items…nothing new to look at, so they stop going…
IF there is always something new to see, then they will keep going back…
The same with an online shop…xx
I don’t get much time to make things and I don’t have much time to list them either, so I tend to drip feed new listings rather than save them up and do big bulk listings all on the same day. Of course this is dependent on when hubby (who takes the photographs) can get them photographed too! But I would say the same as GweddusArt, regular new listings keep potential buyers interested and looking, and it keeps your shop looking fresh.
I prefer to drip feed. There are some areas of Folksy (like the newest items section on the front page and the category pages) where items are shown by newest first. I always think that if you have 10 items and list them all at the same time, then they’ll all be at the top of those areas at the same time and maybe they’ll be seen by 20 people… but as they’re done at the same time, they’ll all be seen by the same 20 people, and then it’ll probably be quite a while until you have anything new to list, so you’ll have a long time with nothing at the top.
If you spread it out though, you might get your first item seen by those 20 people, but as your next one is on a different day, that might be seen by 20 completely different people. Rather than everything being seen by 20 people, you might have 200 people seeing 1 of your items, increasing the chances that it’ll be the right sort of item for at least one of them.
Each of those people might not see as much variety of your items, but if they like the one they see, hopefully they’d click through to your shop to see the others (and there wouldn’t be such big gaps when you have nothing new to list).
As for times, I’m not sure if there’s a specific best time or day, and it may depend on the sorts of items you’re selling and when people that buy them are most likely to be online. If you pick a busy time, there might be lots of people browsing, but because everyone else is listing, there’s less time at the top for them to be seen. If you pick a quiet time like the middle of the night, they might have loads of time at the top, but less people browsing to see them. Drip feeding at least gives you a bit more opportunity to experiment though and see if a particular time works better for you.
It’s not all about timing though, as it’s not very important for the search, there are just some parts of the site that are chronological.
Thank you so much Kim @konyskiw, I didn’t realise that when you relisted it appeared on the front page under Recently Listed, because I thought only brand new listing appeared there. Obviously I have a lot to learn.
@HeartToSoulCards You’re sort of right, the 8 items that show right on the front page will be brand new listings (or renewed items that were first listed within the past month or two), but if you click on the see more button that will show brand new and recent relists, even if they were first listed a long time ago.
