Why are my newly listed items not getting on the front page?

Yet again, I’ve listed three new items, and not one of them has appeared on the front page selection screen. There were items listed just before mine, appearing as ‘listed 10 mins ago’, then some after mine, as ‘listed just now’, but no sign of mine at all. Why??? I don’t get it, what am I doing wrong???

Hey, I know they’re only there for a few moments, but any extra exposure helps!

I have found that often I list an item and before I have a chance to see it on the front page it is on page 4 or 5 of the recently listed. I have tried listing at different times of day to see if that makes a difference but there always seems to be someone else listing 50 or 60 items (probably an exaggeration) and my single item gets swamped.
I often wonder if the only answer to relist everything every day.

It’s a huge boost - I’ve bought/favourited items from seeing them on the newly listed bit - and then favouriting them gets even longer exposure, and then it snowballs.
I think getting the newly listed slot is very hit and miss - some are there for ages!

And on a similar vein - I had an item in the ‘‘being bought now’’ slot for over an hour yesterday, yet it never made its way into the shopping basket or my order list, let alone paid for, so that’s another mystery!

I’m not talking about the ‘recently listed’ bar at the bottom of the page, I know items vanish quickly from there, and my items are appearing on that part. It’s the 2 boxes on the main selection that show newly listed items that I’m referring to - they ignore relisted items but should show all newly-listed ones, at least I thought they should. Are they only picking random newly-listed ones now?

I would love to know anything gets onto the front page, I have not been lucky enough to have achieved that yet.

Think it’s very hit and miss to get into those two little boxes on the Smorgesbord.
We commented about it a while back to Camilla.
As can be appreciated we don’t get to list new prints very often and when we do we hit the list button and then rush to the FP to see our item. Alas on numerous occasions now we have sat and watched items that have been listed 12 minutes ago get replaced with items that were listed after ours. There appears to be no rhyme or reason to how they get picked :frowning:

Exactly what I did @littleRamstudio, as I too don’t list new items that often. Yet I saw three items from another shop all appear in those boxes over a short space of time, so how does that work?

@thesherbetpatch - at least you got on the front page for an hour, even if no sale, that’s great exposure

I wondered the same thing Christine and littleramstudio

One of my newly listed items did appear once luckily I got a screen shot on my iPad before it rapidly disappeared never to be seen again yet lots of others hang around forever. Folksy’s front page has long been a mystery to me is it random? Although you do see the same names time after time

Yup me too, I’ve listed items and had the odd one show up on the front page but there are more that do not show up.
Just the luck of the draw I expect. It’s hard enough to promote items on Folksy, there are still such a large amount of people who have never heard of it.

Mine didn’t show either! sob! x

Something from my Twinkle & Gloom shop popped up once in the special ‘newly listed’ square. I got a screen shot of it.

Guess what? As if by magic one of my items has mysteriously appeared on the front page. A coincidence? Thank you whoever.

I would imagine these slots contain code that selects at random x number of items newly listed every x seconds. So not every newly listed item will appear there.

As an aside, we were recently told in another thread, the vast majority of sales come about as a result of a search query (google and the internal search bar) and not from a click on the front page, so I wouldn’t worry too much about lost opportunities.

I’ve noticed that the 2 or 3 times mine have made the front page it’s been when I’ve listed a single completely new item, as opposed to one of a group of re-lists (if that makes any sense),so it maybe worth listing things separately with time in between I guess.

Mine were all new items (re-lists don’t get picked up ever) and were listed one at a time. I do always copy from an existing listing, so don’t know whether that affects it or not. I don’t think I’ll bother looking next time, it winds me up too much

We have tried both ways Christine, copying from an old listing and creating a brand new listing. Both methods have proved to be duds when it comes to getting into that elusive little picture box on the front page :frowning:

The last time I listed some new things, I decided to do it in the evening when there might be more people browsing and I decided I wouldn’t obsess about looking out for them on the Smorgasbord but was confident that some would be there. I looked at the front page after I’d finished, and the Smorgasbord part of the front page wasn’t even there!!

I listed a couple of new paintings the other day. The first one didn’t show up on the front page, despite being a brand new listing, and as others have found items could be on the front page for 10 - 20 minutes, and then something else comes along, but what we’ve listed in the meantime doesn’t get a look in. The second painting I decided I might as well use the ‘copy’ function from the first one I had listed…and that one showed up! There seems to be no rhyme nor reason…
