A little update on search

We’ve been making some improvements to search on Folksy.

Shop names are no longer included as part of an item search parameter. Why? Because previously, matching a shop name could influence which product appeared in search results. By removing shop name from the product search parameters, we’re seeing much more relevant and accurate results.

Early data is already showing positive changes in how buyers interact with those results.

But don’t worry! You can still search for a shop by name! Buyers can use ‘Shop Search’ when looking for a particular seller. We also recommend adding your shop name as a tag to a couple of your products (just pick some of your favourites) and/or including your shop name in your shop description. Both of these factors help your products to show up when someone searches for your shop name in product search.

This is a small change behind the scenes, but it’s already helping us make search more relevant for buyers.

More relevant results = better discoveries = more opportunities for your work to be found. :flexed_biceps:

We’ll be sharing more on this soon, including an updated guide on how to optimise for search on the blog, but for now we recommend keeping your eye on our instagram @folksysellers for more tips and hints.
