Absolutely fuming! What is the point?

I just saw the Folksy Friday post with a board related to the theme of the day, which is Space Day, and we were advised to use the tag “celestial”.
There was only one problem with the board. Out of the 8 items featured, only 1 had the tag “celestial” exactly as we were advised to use, and another 2 had it along with another word (which doesn’t work for the theme of the day).
I only noticed because I created a board myself, and never seen any of those items in the theme of the day link, which is included in the post.
So out of the 5 pages of items, Folksy decided to ignore all apart from 1, and feature for the theme of the day makers that didn’t even make the effort to tag their items for that. The items are beautiful, and deserve to be featured, and Folksy has the right to advertise whatever they want of course, but doing so using the theme of the day on a folksy Friday that are both used so much by a lot of makers to promote their work and each other’s work, it is just offensive for the rest of us. I am absolutely gutted & made to feel like I’m selling rubbish. So much for naming, describing and tagging our items correctly so we can be seen, hey?

We’re really sorry you feel like that, Mina. The Folksy Friday boards are compiled in advance (when not everyone will have tagged their items) and so we use a mix of ways to find the products, including tags, search. The pieces we choose need to fit well together as a collage, so even if we really love a product and the product, it might just be right for that particular graphic.

It’s also worth noting that our Folksy Fridays don’t always tie in with the theme of the day, they can be something else entirely, but they do tend to be used quite often by other sellers as a prompt for their boards. Whether or not it leads to something being included in a Folksy Friday though, it’s still always worth taking part in the Theme of the Day because it features on the Folksy homepage and every item that is correctly tagged has an equal chance of appearing there, as the selection changes every time someone visits or refreshes the page.

It’s a shame that because the post had been scheduled, a board that does tie with the item of the day tag, as it is mentioned in the actual post as well, the items shown don’t, as they haven’t been tagged. Anyone checking the link on the post to find the shown items will not be able to, and links to the items haven’t been added (3hrs after the post). Can you see why some of us get frustrated with things like that? We spend so much time and put so much effort to use the info and the features you give us (that you have created and explained to us with a lot of time & effort from your part), and all that ends up wasted, because what happens in reality is just totally different. I saw the board and went “wow, how did I miss all these, this morning when making my own board!” and clicked on the link and saw only 1 of them. Yet again, there were many more items that had been tagged properly & even matched the graphic…
Really disappointed with it all, and really disheartening.

Would it not be better Camilla to have a shut off date next to the Totd you notify us of. Allowing for the lead time you need to do the FF board.perhaps ask for themes a month in advance say May for July. That would avoid this situation happening as can see how frustrating it is for sellers, who have tagged apropriately only to see others that have not bothered but are included.

I don’t always tag especially for theme of the day. I will use what I think is a good tag and recently I have been chosen for gift guide so I’m not complaining. But I am a bit concerned a few items are questionable? Definitely not reporting it, as Folksy has obviously ok’d it.

I must admit I haven’t done a folksy friday board for a while as I haven’t had the time although occasionally I have done one of all my own items. When I did do them I rarely used the theme of the day but a theme of my own choosing. The theme of the day is totally different to folksy friday and could even be an occasion on a friday to do two separate boards on the same day.

It is Lovely when “folksy” choose your items for a board or gift guide but even better when your fellow folksy sellers choose your products for their board. @theslothscavern just think of the sellers whose day was made up because you chose their work for your board😊
