Business name ideas

Hello everyone,

Someone else is called Blackbird Crochet. They’re in Spain and I’m not entirely sure if they’re an actual business as I can only find them on Facebook.

I kept getting views from FB when I haven’t promoted there. So I need to change my name but still want the word ‘blackbird’ as I crochet beside much loved Blackbirds singing.

Any ideas?

I was thinking ‘Blackbird and Loops’

I only sell crochet table decor.

Thanks

Lynsey

The idea I thought of is Blackbird Mats&More

That sounds sweet.

The other Blackbird Crochet is only on FB and IG but hasn’t posted since 2018. So I’m wondering if I can keep the name. I’m not sure if they’re trading still.

Hooked on Blackbirds?

My mind keeps going towards making some sort of connection between a bird’s nest and crochet in the name but I can’t quite figure out what!

I really think given the lack of current posts from the other blackbird crochet you can use the name yourself.
Maybe with a hyphen or pluralise as BlackbirdCrochets

I was in a near identical situation Lynsey when I came to set up my shop.

My late dad and I both love penguins and he would always say that I was either being ‘shifty’ or ‘crafty’. He always encouraged me to make time for things I was passionate about and so I was adamant I wanted to use ‘Crafty Penguin’.

When I looked online, there were already companies using that name - a marketing company and a craft store in Canada were two of them if memory serves.

I added ‘Handmade’ to try and gain some separation from those. I too seem to get views from Facebook and I don’t currently promote there either. Possibly something to do with Folksy activities - perhaps people click through to Folksy from there and browse a few shops? Who knows.

I like Moira’s ‘Hooked on Blackbirds’ or maybe ‘Blackbird and Hook’? Or how about ‘Blackbird and Loop’ or 'Where Blackbirds Sing" although then you lose the direct crochet connection. You could of course stay very close to your current name with ‘The Blackbird Crochets’.

That was what I was hoping.

I thought of Blackbird and Hook too but really llike Hooked on Blackbirds.

When I started out, I hadn’t really given much though to how my shop name would help or hinder searches…but turns out that having bag in my title has actually been helpful!! So how about ‘Hooked on Blackbirds Crochet’ keeping crochet in your name might give a bit of extra search ooommmmph!! X

Is the other crafter a business? Is it registered anywhere? Personally, this is what I would look at first…when did they start trading or their FB page?

I agree that keeping crochet is a helpful search thing, which is something we all need. You could make a subtle difference like Blackbird’s crochet. Hooked on Blackbirds Crochet maybe does both, a quirky pun and what it is.

Quote marks are not good in Social media names

I love a bit of a quirkiness in a name and I think it (dare I say it ) hooks people in to having a look. Macclesfield bag Works is a great name and works on many levels. My Born Again Bears name came from my starting point of creating keepsake bears for people ie new memories from old etc. but still links through to how I make bears now from allsorts of materials.

The quotation marks were simply to separate it from the text if my comment. Nothing more!

That sounds lovely

Ah didn’t mean yours. I meant this one in Moira’s suggestion “Blackbird’s crochet”

Yes, I thought you might have meant my apostrophe. Such a shame, Social Media has a lot to answer for. Not least of all the decline of punctuation marks which takes out a lot of definition in our lovely language. Never mind back to the drawing board

The domain name Blackbird Crochet is available to register as far as I could see both as .co.uk and .com

I like the name as it is perhaps as someone else mentioned just add the ‘s’ to the end of crochet especially if you like it and already have a following but whichever name you choose it is worth registering your domain name then no one else will be able to use it to set up an email address. I registered mine as co.uk and if someone else checks whether the name is available or not it will show as already taken.
