Commodity codes if sending items to USA

Hi, I am having a nightmare trying to find the correct commodity codes for my items if I want to send items to the US. Did anyone else have this problem or is it just me? Half of my items, I can’t find anything at all.
I’m really struggling with my crochet coasters and hot water bottle covers? I just wondered if anyone else had any ideas which code would be best??
Thanks,
Claire

Hiya Claire

I had the same problem when they changed them all again. Took me ruddy ages finding them all again!

I use this for my tea cosies:

Other made up articles of textile
6307 908 910 UK

This should be fine for you to use for your coasters and hot water bottle covers :kissing_heart:

The website is a bit faffy trying to find the right one isnt it!

Thank you so much. I can’t believe how difficult it is to find the correct code !. I really do appreciate your help, had just about given up completely.
Do I need to add UK on the end of each number?

You are so very welcome! I had a nightmare too, so feel your pain!

If you’re sending via click and drop and doing the online customs form you dont need to put UK at the end (it doesn’t allow me to) if I’m writing the customs form by hand, then I also write UK at the end.

Hi, I found codes for my bears and dolls but not for my pincushions, this has just reminded me to have another look.

I think I found one!! I will let you know in a bit to see what you think x

Hi @Bearlescent Under textile / textile articles
I was going to use 6307 9010 00 for a crochet pin cushion (knitted or crocheted)
maybe 6307 9098 91 for a fabric one (under other handmade)?

Sorry @MoreTeaVicarKnitwear I couldn’t seem to get your code to work? xx

Oh thank you so much Claire for spending the time looking for me, I think perhaps more have been added since I have been back to look, another of those jobs that I need to revise.

The best look up tool for HS codes which I’ve found is (Commodity Code Finder | Taric Commodity Codes | An Post)

Thanks for this link @millyandpip - I’ve been having a nightmare with my mixed media jewellery because they usually consist of more than one material!

I’ve been using a marquetry code for my fabric and wooden necklaces!!:triumph:

I’ve just sold my first item to the US here on Folksy and think I will give up with the commodity code and just take it to the Post Office, it’s too time consuming. I don’t have to do it with Etsy, I wonder why?

@SeaGlassSeaham the commodity code is a box on the CN22 which Royal Mail expect you to fill in (although it does have an ‘if known’ caveat on the CN22 form) . The post office should ask you for it as well.

It used to be compulsory on Etsy but it changed several months ago, not sure why.

Personally, I tortured myself for several hours some years ago by making a list of the commodity codes for each of the types of things I make, so it’s quick and easy to fill in (although I have to check it’s up to date occasionally).

I take the view that putting all the info you can on the package should reduce the risk of a problem with delivery occuring! Have to say though that sending to the US is about as smooth as international post gets in my experience, which may be due in part to the high threshold for value of imported goods that their customs department takes an interest in - think it’s somewhere around $840.

Thanks, it has been a while since I completed a CN22 and the Post Office used to ask me what was inside. I will see what they say.

Thank you. I have had no problems sending to the US through Etsy either.

Would your pebble art come under ‘other’ in the ‘collages, mosaics and other decorative plaques’ category? https://www.trade-tariff.service.gov.uk/commodities/9701990000
