I sell handmade greeting cards and I had a selection in a local church/coffee morning for sale. The lady keeps them in gthe church in a locked cupboard and normally after 6 months I replace the ones that haven’t sold and give her some new ones. But they smell musty damp. There is nothing wrong with the cards , they have been well looked after, not bent etc but the smell!
how can I get rid of it.
I removed a card from the cellophane sleeve but the smell is in the card too.
any ideas how I can get rid of this smell?
Might you put them in a box with some lavender bags?
I could try that , I have lavender in the house too thank you
Must be pretty bad if it’s getting through cellophane to the cards themselves and not sure if you can do much with the ones that are already affected other than try to air them. Would suggest storing the new ones in a plastic box with an airtight lid and to put some silica gel sachets in with them. Hope you find a a solution.
thank you that’s a good idea too, there were just in a basket . just hate that smell
febreze is quite good x
Bicarbonate of Soda is good for absorbing smells
Bicarb is brilliant! I use a little dish of it in my fridge.
i have that too thank you
thank you very much
never thought of that for absorbing smells thank you
I bought my husband some soap for a Christmas stocking filler and hid it in the drawer with all my card until I’d wrapped it. My card drawer now smells lovely - so maybe a tablet of perfumed soap kept with them for a while may do the trick.
Incense can sometimes make things smell like damp or have a fusty musty smell after time as the fragrance degrades. Could be that.
thank you thats a good idea
the cards were stored in a cupboard in a church and because of lockdown they had been left in there until recently . Think they must have got musty in that cupboard… will need to ask if they can be stored somewhere else. Or as someone suggested maybe stored in a sealed container.
I’ve got them in a bag with some lavender and that seems to be helping so maybe I should put some lavender , scented soap in the container too
You’ve probably solved your problem by now, but just a mention about a similar situation I had. I bought a quantity of white cotton fabric from a mill ( got it cheap) but it smelled of damp and washing didn’t seem to help, so I stored it in a sealed box with tumble dryer sheets between the folds. Voila!! problem solved Ive used most of it now and no one has even mentioned a strange smell so I think I shall store all my fabrics this way from now on. Just thought this may help.
thank you!
