This is probably a silly question (or just a silly person asking!). When you look at your shop stats and click on sources it tells you where your visitors have come from (ie folksy, pinterest, facebook etc.) But what does it mean if it says “direct” - does that mean they searched for you by name?
Yes, perhaps through Google or have your url bookmarked.
If someone searched your shop by name it would still show as a view from that place (for example if someone searched your shop name in Google and clicked on the link, it’d still show with the source ‘Google’). It’d just show under shop visits rather than item visits if the link went to your shop rather than a specific item.
Direct is any view where a source can’t be identified, which means it’s hard to be certain how they got to your shop/item.
It could be that someone typed your address in and went straight to your shop (for example if they had a business card) or they’d bookmarked your shop/item previously and clicked on the bookmark.
Someone could have shared a link in a message or email to one of your items, which will often show as direct.
Views from apps also usually show as direct, because you click the link in the app, and then the app opens a browser to view the page, so it breaks the link of where the view originally came from (for example views from the Instagram app will often show as direct, but you may also sometimes see views identified as Instagram, often from people using the Instagram website instead).
