I signed up and opened a new shop today, I was in the middle of listing my third item when the site crashed and a message saying the site was under heavy load as lots of people were using it popped up.
I could not continue with the listing process which I am finding very cumbersome anyway - especially only being able to add one photo at a time, and had to close the page.
Then, when trying to sign in again I was told my email or password was wrong and I have had to make a new password request and change it to something new.
This has not made a very good first impression on me and if this is typical of the site I am afraid I will be cancelling my plus subscription and going elsewhere.
Is this something that happens a lot, or have I just joined on a particularly bad day?
Hi, and welcome to Folksy.
I have been selling on Folksy for about 9 years and have only had issues a couple of times, so no, it is not a regular thing. You must have just picked a bad momentā¦
Thanks for your replies Kim and Caroline. Itās good to hear that itās not a regular thing. I have persevered and managed to list a few more items without any problems, so fingers crossed.
I hope the one at a time photo adding is sorted at some point. It is time consuming. Otherwise, I think things are getting better all the time, including the recently improved shopkeeping tab which is so much easier to use. I hope it goes smoothly for you from now on.
I struggled with getting set up too (some problem with authorising the Plus subscription) but was blown away to find that my help request went straight through to a real person who not only understood the question I was asking, but proceeded to answer the question and fix the issue! After 15 years on a platform with nonexistent, clueless and/or AI āsupportā this was a lovely surprise. The photo loading was a complete PITA as it kept crashing, but this has been fixed since Iāve been here, and although we can still only load one at a time the process is at least reliable (I remember when Etsyās listing process was several separate pages and only one photo at a time, you couldnāt reorder the photos except by deleting and re-uploading, and as I was on dialup there was literally time to make a cup of tea while each pic was loadingā¦ so itās all relativeā¦)
Iāve had a shop here since 2009. It is remarkably easy to use once you are used to it. Iāve only ever created one new listing, all others were copied from that and then edited.
Have you set up a shop elsewhere before? You have no social media links so I canāt tell.
I have others but apart from the single photo thingy Folksy is the quickest and easiest to do most things.
If site is busyā¦ that is good news and it is rare for it to impact.
Signonā¦it you use the correct email, password you specified at the start then it will be accepted.
If you try a slightly different it will reject.
Sorry you are having problems but step back a minute and try again
A tip for listing is, the moment youve uploaded one image, go and āpreview listingā.
That saves it into your drafts folder and you can then āmake changesā to finish it off.
It means you dont lose your listing completely. Every time you preview, you update the draft. It saves your bacon if you get kicked out partway through. Just open the drafts folder and there it is ready to be added to.
Like Joy, i simply copy an old listing and update all the info as i go. I choose one in the same category as my new item so some of the tags will be right.
I dont think youāll regret joining Folksy once youve overcome the initial hurdles. Today is the last day for the free Switch promotion, so that may be why its crashed. I always put the minimum amount of info in first, then preview, which means it saves your listing to draft. I then proceed to edit it without fear of having to start again.
Thanks for all the listing tips, Iāll try doing them that way in future.
@JOYSofGLASS I have had shops on Etsy and that too has had itās problems, but I guess itās getting used to something new. I donāt have any social media links for this shop as yet.
@OrchardFelts Iām assuming by app you mean for a phone which I donāt have cos I canāt work them out either lol.
I only use a laptop, as my phone is ancient by tech standards, and have had no problems listing in the 2 years since I joined, although I do find I have to clear my caches regularly.
I think any new site takes a few weeks to get used to, but I have found Folksy pretty easy, and I am not very tech savvy.
I have one other shop, which I only opened 3 months ago, and I find that one much less easy to navigate.
I find this a lovely site to be on, everyone is very friendly and helpful, both the folksy staff (real people!) and the other traders.
Hope the site settles down for you, and does turn out to be just a blip.
Best of luck with your shop
Love your mandalas btw
Iāve been on Folksy for nearly 12 years and have had very few problems. Itās really easy once youāre used to it and the Folksy staff are really helpful. Like Joy, I just copy existing listings - itās so much quicker and easier.
Weāll talk about this more broadly soon but I wanted you all to be the first to hear (and try out!) that you can now upload multiple photos at the same time using the website thank you for your continued feedback.
We expect it to work smoothly but do let us know how you get on with it. Exciting!
This works for me, Iāve just tried it but not actually listed as I donāt have anything new to list! Itās backwards though, so list the main image last. What a timesaver
Everything Iāve tried so far has gone in the correct order with the main image first, but I suspect itās just listing in alphabetical order rather than the order you select things (I save all my item photos as titlea, titleb, titlecā¦ so alphabetical works for me).
donāt give upā¦Folksy is a fabulous place to be and it is rare to have problems. IF you get any problems then admin are brilliant at helping and sorting things out.
You have to remember that Folksy is not a huge site like Et** or the bayā¦
I have been on folksy 11 years now and love it here with fast approaching 1500 sales.
Stick with us x
