Yesterday tried to upgrade to PLUS but went all the way through then got sent to an obscure page (from my bank?!?!?) asking for some weird reference number. I had no clue how to proceed, so I presume it’s not gone though as I just clicked away. Why on earth can’t we just pay with Paypal like before? So much less hassle. Looks like I’m going to have a big bill at the end of every month (even though I hardly ever sell anything here.) Surely Folksy it should be easy to upgrade. I am a seasoned internet user - been selling online since 2000 but couldn’t work this one out!
It was probably asking for the 6 digit security code. It had sent you via text or email. That is standard bank security nowadays and needed on a good 50% of my online bank, payment transactions. I also have to use it on PayPal quite often ?
If it is a new payment being set up then most banks would want a security code, normally sent by email or text, I know mine does. As Joy said, even Paypal do sometimes. It’s the bank checking it’s you & a genuine transaction, not Folksy’s fault.
I had difficulty getting back on it too. A right faff. It kept rejecting payment and in the end I had to message admin and they sorted it.
It wasn’t. I am used to getting codes through on my mobile and used to verified by Visa - it was neither of these.
Just to say if it helps…
I upgraded Friday and had the same thing and was sent off at first to a random unfamiliar page which halted/stopped the transaction at the last point, and was thrown for 10 seconds or so, as that hadn’t happened to me before, but I just re did it, got the code text then and it all went through fine.
Perhaps try again?

I had trouble setting up my Plus account - eventually messaged Support and they were fantastically helpful and sorted it for me. Not sure what they did, but it worked!
If you’re having trouble setting up Plus because of the online banking bit, just send an email to support.
There’s another sign up method because there are a few banks that seem to have problems, but it requires a personalised link so you have to email to get it.
As far as I know though, Plus has never been paid by PayPal. I can’t say for certain because I wasn’t here in the early days, but it’s been GoCardless for as long as I’ve been here, the sign up method just changed a bit over the past couple of years.
Did Folksy change their software in September 2019 re SCA. It was a specific coding change needed but only applied to some banks, not all depending on how the banks implemented it themselves I think.
I had difficulty with several online shops until they made the change after it was implemented by the banks
Maybe it is gocardless that needs to fix itself. I’ve never used it anywhere else but on Folksy.
Yeah, me neither. Never heard of it before. Not really sure what to do now … maybe message Folksy (I suppose.)
@TinyArtStudio I emailed you about this yesterday, you should have an email from support to the address on your account. Please check in your junk folder if you haven’t seen it.
@JOYSofGLASS Our direct debits are managed through GoCardless, so these sorts of issues are on their end rather than ours - Is GoCardless SCA compliant?
Does make you wonder if they are doesn’t it ?.. As I said, never used them anywhere else but here but if anyone else has maybe they could answer.
I’ve read what their article says but nowadays people dont expect problems paying so something seems to be a bit iffy.
Spotted this :
The EBA has also confirmed that ‘paperless’ Direct Debit mandates will not require SCA on any payment collection, including any initial payment.
but As an agency of the European Union , the EBA is subject to the provisions of the Financial Regulation applicable to the general budget of the EU’
We are NOT in the EU
Has anyone confirmed our non EU banks agree with the EBA
As mentioned before, the issues we’ve had have been with this particular sign up method and how it works with online banking. There are specific banks/bank account types that currently don’t work with this, and GoCardless have been investigating it.
For those that have come to us with these issues, the alternative sign up method (which is also through GoCardless) works without issue for those same bank accounts - this just requires contact with support so we can send the unique link.
Thanks for the explanation @kimfolksy. x
Hi Kim, Thank you for this. I have only just seen your reply and my junk folder is well cleared out by now LOL. Is it possible to resend? Sorry about this. Would still like to sign up for plus.
Hi Kim, YEY! I actually found your message (which I have now replied to.) Hopefully we can set up the direct debit option instead Many thanks.
@TinyArtStudio Just in case it’s gone hiding to junk again, you should now have a sign up link in your email
