Morning everyone..
May I just ask how long it takes to get 1st sale on here.. we have only been open 7 weeks which is just less than 2 months so it’s early days and we are currently adding new items and have updated our shop recently, we promote and share and interact on social media…we haven’t been posting on folksy groups much though..
We are just wondering what else we can do..
Any advice greatly appreciated

Hi, it took me about 2 months to get my first sale. You seem to be doing everything right, using social media is the way to promote your shop but it’s not easy! I think you just need to keep doing what you’re doing and hopefully the sales will come! I know you took part in the daily challenge thread a while back so I think it’s worth trying to engage with more of the forums on here as it may help.

Are you going through the Daily Themes and tagging your products that fit with the suggested tags and also the Thoughtful Gift Edit? I had a sale for one of my notebooks because it showed in the Thoughtful Gift Edit feature.
Hi Hilary @kokoblue yes we were doing the monthly challenge but couldn’t do this month, but we will be joining next month’s challenge…We will post more here on the threads and folksy groups too…Thank you for replying 
Hi Sarah @sarahloucrafts we are using theme of the day but not all apply to our products, the gift guide We have forgotten about, but I think we added one or 2 at the beginning…
There is so much more we could be doing so it’s all taken note of…

I think time to first sale is something that varies very much from shop to shop. I think it was about 4 months till mine, and my first couple of sales came via the Daily Promotion challenge thread. Since then they have been few and far between, and only from fellow Folksy-ites or people I “know” on facebook, not from complete strangers. But I plod on …!!! I enjoy Folksy, love the forum, and love making things. I have a bag of beautiful material a friend gave me, just need more time to turn my ideas into items!

Looking through your shop, your items are very niche and it seems you’re targeting a very specific audience rather than the broader handmade market, so it will take a lot longer to find the right buyers.
It might be worth thinking about where your target customers are most likely to discover products like yours. My advice would be to explore niche communities, specialist forums, relevant events, or marketplaces that cater directly to your target audience.
That doesn’t necessarily mean there’s no market here for what you make, just that the audience is a lot smaller and harder to reach. Focusing on channels where those customers already spend time would help you get a better sense of demand and a better idea of where to list your items so that they get seen and you have a better chance of making sales.

Thank you @PoppyKayDesigns poppy Kay designs… to be honest we didn’t think our product had a niche market and it’s not something we have thought about but we will look into your suggestions and see what happens.. you never know we just might catch someone’s eye in the not too distant future
consistency is the answer…keep showing and chatting, so that people get to know your name and what you sell…it took me 3 months for my first sale and now over 2100…it is hard work but it pays off…join in some of the games as well…alphabet game, flower items, etc…I allow at least an hour each morning to show my items on here and on social media etc…

Honestly I would pay to advertise your items elsewhere. You do not get much traffic on Folksy so need to do that yourself. Don’t hang on and wait for sudden sales, you need to advertise your shop as if it were a website. Folksy do not advertise or bring in much traffic for you. However it is a lovely place to sell, very friendly, helpful and the other sellers are wonderful. If you want sales, you need to bring them in. Hope that helps x
