Inviting reviews

I seem to get very few reviews. The last one was a sale I made in May. I know Folksy send out an email reminding buyers to review products but I thought maybe I could send my own message too, in case they miss the Folksy one. But … I can’t work out how to leave a review and so I can’t tell buyers how to do it.
Does anyone know a way to do this so that I can increase the number of reviews I have?

You have lots of lovely reviews. Plenty for a customer to see, don’t worry about always needing more new ones ,

I have never asked a customer for a review outside the standard messages sent about it. I leave reviews usually even if a few days late But if I get a reminder … I Don’t. Just saying. .
To be honest I am just as happy when, as happened twice yesterday , my customer responded on my acknowledgement email to say it had arrived and they loved it.
Do you send a personal order acknowledgement? It does help to give the customer a friendly personal feel.

I would not ask for reviews it is up to the customer. I often do not get reviews but their choice. If I get pressurised to leave a review often think why should I. It should come naturally some customers will others will not.

Hi @WonkyTowersCrafts
It depends on whether the buyer has a Folksy account & if they were logged in when they placed their order. When logged in you go to the dashboard & look under ‘Activity’ - there is a link for reviews which should show all purchases which haven’t been reviewed yet. I believe there is also a banner across the top to remind them that they have purchases to review.
If the buyer was a guest or not logged in, then they would need to wait for the email from Folksy which has a link to review (I think - I’m always logged in!)

As Joy & Caroline have said though, I’m not sure it’s worth asking people for a review. Some folks will always leave reviews (even without being chased) & some will never do it, regardless of how many times you ask! At least the reviews don’t show with a date so potential customers won’t know how old the reviews are

Personally, I wouldn’t ask for a review. Reviews filter in organically and I feel it’s best left that way. As Joy @JOYSofGLASS says, there are other ways customers show appreciation. I’ve had a few repeat customers who don’t leave reviews, but the fact they come back again is testimony in itself. I probably only review about half of my online purchases because I forget to do it, but I wouldn’t want to be hectored to give one.

Thanks to all of you. I’m probably similar, in that I don’t really like being asked to review something! I think my dilemma is that I make some things that are a bit ‘experimental’ and I’d like to know whether they work for the customer. I always trial these things myself and on my family, so I’m not putting untried things out there but I’d still like to know what people think. It would be good to have people who aren’t my family saying that these products do work. Maybe the personal email, checking that customers are happy and if they have any comments would give me some information but it wouldn’t help to encourage new customers to try something different.

I never ask for reviews either, less than half of my sales have Folksy reviews, I always message customers when they purchase so I get a lot via email when their item arrives, some contact me via FB or IG and others nothing but I wouldn’t like to ask.

If you’re after that sort of confirmation, maybe a personal email as you’re sending out might work.

“Your item has been posted today and should arrive with you in… It’s the first one I’ve sold outside my family so I’d love to know what you think”.

Not specifying that it’s a review but that you’d value their feedback for research might work a little better. You might get some people emailing back, and some might also do it in a review (but there’s still bound to be some that don’t respond at all).

I never ask for reviews as I take the view that “all feedback’s a gift” and I wouldn’t ask for one of those :face_with_hand_over_mouth::gift:

Kim’s suggestion is a good one I think. Also, if you have newsletter subscribers (who will have signed up as they’re interested in your work and like to hear from you), they’d be great people to ask for feedback and views.

PS Thank you for raising this topic. It reminded me I needed to leave a review… Had the email days ago but there was a lead time to despatch and then Parcel Force kept saying they would deliver and did not so I almost forgot to leave the review. . And when i did i found another outstanding from December (had sent something direct so had had to await a response from recipient)…As you can see there are often good reasons you don’t get a review however much the customer loves your stuff

Oh id lpve a review , it would at least mean id got a sale lol

Thanks @konyskiw . That’s a great suggestion! I knew you guys would help me work this one out.

I was wondering how do you know if you get a review? I cant find the section in my shop, is that because i dont have any, or am i looking in the wrong place? Im always worried they didnt like it but dont want to say!

Hi Pamela,

i think you don’t have any yet. When you do, you will see some stars in your shop header. Click on them and you’ll see your reviews.

Alternatively, scroll right down to the bottom of your shop page and they are down there.

I’m sure you will have lots of good reviews very soon!
