Item/Shop Views and Sales (or lack of!)

Hi, I’ve had a huge increase in item views over the past 30 days 1116 at the moment - nothing like I’ve ever had before - normally views were in the 10/20s or thereabouts, very low figures. I had miscaterogised items unwittingly in jewellery and clothing for the ‘Wedding’ category :see_no_evil_monkey::sweat_smile::joy: so this may have had something to do with the low figures. I’m working through recaterogising each item and also redoing the photos (I’m about half way through, still quite a few to redo so they fit the screen appropriately). Is it normal for such high numbers of views without any sales or is that typical viewing numbers generally speaking? Thank

Sounds a lot to me - I only get between 0 and 15 a day generally, unless I’m doing the monthly challenge thread!

What are the “ sources” - does that help you work out what is going on?

You need to look into the data a bit more. Did you get a spike in views on a particular day or on a particular item or from a particular source?

If the spike happened on a particular day it could mean that you had a item featured somewhere (you would also see a spike in views for that item, I’ve had big spikes in item views from having an item featured in a folksy email) or had a bot crawl through your shop indexing it (I’ve currently got a spike in my 30 day chart from a bot indexing).

I’ve found that jumps in views don’t necessarily lead to more sales.

I meant to reply directly, thanks

Hi, thank you. A lot via Folksy, 147. It’s such a huge leap from my previous viewing figures that I’m bemused now  :joy:.

Hi thanks - there are a number of days with 178, 120 & 99 views, so maybe an item was featured somewhere. The views of 1000+ are so surprising as I’ve been with Folksy since October 2023 and never had anything remotely like these kinds of views ever before, far from it and I’ve never sold a single item other than to family (my sister’s my biggest fan :joy:). You’d think with views of that number someone somewhere would buy something. I live in hope :joy: :joy::joy::partying_face:

I hope you get a sale too.

Thank you

I had a massive spike in views a few days ago and got all excited and then realised it was me on the day I updated the October tags. :joy: I love your acorn earrings - I’ll add them to my Folksy Friday list for next week to hopefully get you some more views and sales x

Ah! Thanks, Noelle. That’s really kind of you. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: That fabric really is stunning. I think I’ve got a tote bag or a drawstring bag cut and ready to sew in it too. Like you, I just need some things to start selling. :crossed_fingers:

Join the club! I have a head bursting with ideas, but if I keep making without selling anything I will just have a pile of items to go the charity shop or, when they don’t sell there, to landfill or made into rags.

That’s exactly what I’ve been thinking - I’ve just made 8 new pairs of earrings - I need to stop making things and sell something  :joy:

:upside_down_face: know your pain having to make multople category changes. Valentines doesn’t really match Halloween. Unless people would love a :woman_mage:

I’m very new here - came from ‘the other place’.

My real issue is I’m not a fan of social media so really struggle even to get shop views. Last week saw a sudden spike of several hundred! Then realised most, if not all were me updating my image database so needed to go to each product to get the URL :frowning:

What I can say is this platform just seems so much nicer - and I’m enjoying being here.

Welcome to Folksy from me. I find it very easy to use, friendly, and fun to be part of. When it comes to views, I find I get a lot more on here than on the other side. Maybe because I have a lot more listings on here and hardly any there Sales however, are non existent on either and have been for months.

Research shows that social media ranks the lowest for public trust, so not being a fan of it isn’t an issue. The reason shops aren’t getting views is the lack of investment in advertising from Folksy. Expecting individual shop owners to keep shouting into the social media void won’t build customer trust or get the Folksy name out there, it’s just too fragmented and inconsistent. A strong and coordinated advertising strategy executed by Folksy itself is needed to build customer trust, raise awareness of the platform’s existence, and help sellers (and Folksy) with increased visibility and conversion to sales.

Your comment about it being nicer here reminded me of someone I knew many years ago who tried to start a handmade bath and body business. She spent months pouring love and care into creating beautiful products and hosted product parties at her home. They were lovely evenings with good wine and food, a welcoming atmosphere, and all her lovely items out ready to be sold. Everyone she invited always came along to the evenings, enjoyed themselves, and told her how wonderful everything looked, but no one actually bought anything, so after months of trying and spending so much time, money, and energy on it, she eventually had to stop. She thought having a nicer environment to sell her products in would generate sales - sadly it didn’t.

The issue as ever is cost. I used to head up a national driving school - to get one instructor established into a new area would cost us around £1,500 over 2 months to get them to the top of Google then intermitted campaigns as and when their workload slowed.

I rarely, if ever click on a sponsored (aka bribed) link as it is a race to the bottom.
