Monthly Art Chat - August 2014

Thanks Gaynor - I’m having fun this year that’s for sure - it ebbs and glows I find - for sales July was the quietest month of the year for me so hoping august starting well is a good sign

It’s good to do different things Margaret  what jewellery did you make ?

he’s fab Hazel, Owls are so fascinating and you have done a really good job on that one

here’s my batch all mounted just need to get the light tent out to take proper pictures for listing, but I would much rather be doing something more creative so I might leave that until later on and go make some books, I have so many ideas at the moment just don’t know where to start!

Fab bees Gaynor, you’re doing really well at the moment with all these commissions, well done!

Lovely owl Hazel, he has mesmerizing eyes!

Great colours Max, love all of those.

I was jewellery making with different shapes of tigers eye beads, and mixing it with aragonite too. I made three necklaces and two bracelets of various designs. Still have lots of beads left too!lol

Wowee Max they are all really beautiful. What sort of light tent do you have? I was looking at DIY versions last night made from a cardboard box and white tissue paper.

Cute owl Hazel, I hope the buyer likes him. Congrats on the sales too, it’s good to hear you’re doing well.

I’m on the home run heading towards my first century in my new shop - not bad since I only opened it in January

Congrats on the commission Gaynor. Your bees look fab displayed together in the matching frames.

Margaret I occasionally make earrings, the only sort of jewellery that I wear. Would love to see some pics when you’re done.

I’ve been taking photos this morning, back later with a listing…

Thanks Stephie but he is a gift, we visited some relatives at the weekend and the host has a passion for all things owls so I thought it would be nice to send this as a thank you gift, they don’t know it coming so will be a surprise

Well done on your sales too  You really have done well since you changed over … Folksy is quiet for me at the moment … hope you get to 100 soon … I seem to have got stuck just short of it lol

Thanks Max  Love the colours on your new ink pieces

WOW Margaret you have been busy  and yes my owls eye are a bit like that aren’t they lol

Thank you Stephie and Margaret. I have an interfit folding lightbox with the proper lamps, they were fairly expensive but they were Xmas prezzies a few years ago, and I use them all the time :). (Though it would probably help if I used my camera properly lol).

I painted this one using a pitt ink pen and my inktense blocks whilst sitting on the hill with a view over the natural harbour at Bude.

I have a slightly larger one half finished of the sea pool on the beach at Bude, need to add a little more colour to it yet. We really liked Bude and will probably stay near there next year. It was an hour’s drive from where we were staying this year so we only went once.

Lovely scene Stephie. I haven’t used my inks yet, the ones I got cheaply from CASS Art. Not had time!

I’ll see if I can photograph my jewellery when I’ve got the clasps put on. I’m a bit shy about it as I know I’m only an amateur! I have a lot of fun making stuff though.

I used inktense blocks for that one, which is just ink in a block so I describe it as ink. Most non-arty folk haven’t heard of inktense.

Yoohoooo! Anyone around?

I’ve just ordered some magnetic tape ready to make some dance related fridge magnets for this Saturday’s summer fete at the dance school. I think I’ll use my sharpies to draw ballet shoes on 2 inch square white foam core board leaving space to write a name, and take crayons along so that the little ones can colour in their own. Hopefully they’ll be a winner!

Have also bartered away one of my dance ACEOs to my lovely daughter in return for working on my stall

Hey Stephie, waving ~ I’m here now been busy making some new album/books with matching boxes, quite excited to see how they go down. Your fridge magnet’s sound cool, great idea too, your lucky it only cost you and ACEO, mine usually demand at least a starbucks lol!

Sorry I’ve been gone ages, been making up these necklaces and bracelets. This is the bit I don’t like doing! Here’s some of what I’ve finished today.

I suppose this is stretching the definition of ‘art’ for this thread but as it’s only this once hopefully nobody will mind!
