Need Environmentally Conscious Packaging Ideas

Hi everyone!

I’m a fairly new seller looking for the right thing to post my greeting cards in and was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

I’d like to use as little packaging as possible and completely avoid using plastic or anything that can’t be recycled. But obviously I still want something robust enough to protect my cards along the journey. I’ve considered hard-back envelopes but I would struggle with depth if somebody orders a few cards at once.

Has anyone come across anything unique? Am more than happy to DIY the packaging so I’m looking at envelope folding…

Elki.

I try to limit my use of plastic too, but try as I might, I have not been able to get around the whole Jiffy bag thing.

  1. Because I don’t want my jewellery to arrive bent or squashed.

  2. Because I don’t want the presentation box to get wet if it happens to be pouring with rain the day it is delivered. As most things are bought as gifts, a soggy cardboard presentation box would be a problem.

Roll on the production of vegetable based biodegradable plastics…

I use PIP boxes as much as possible. They are entirely cardboard, I can get a few items in and they won’t get crushed… They come in a large variety of sizes so I expect you could get a card sized one for sales of multiples.
When I have bought multipe cards they have sometimes come in A4 hard back envelopes taped in stacks side by side.
I believe you can get cellophane sleeves for cards rather than plastic.

I made my own illustrated stickers with “This packaging has been recycled” to make a positive feature of using random pieces of cardboard!
