New Sellers Mandatory Sections

I have noticed a lot of new shops, never put there name or about details (customers want to know the person they are buying from).
Measurements of items not quoted how is a customer meant to know the size, if me would walk away.
Would it not be a good idea to make certain fields mandatory when adding new listings. This would guide new sellers what they need to do and make Folksy in general more professional. Some of the descriptions seem recently? Well mean nothing, I am assuming it is down to inexperience.
Making sections mandatory would make a new seller stop and think and maybe ask for help.

Good idea, it would save customers having to contact the seller although some sellers don’t include any relevent information at all, in which case I doubt customers would bother to ask.
I’ve seen quite a few listings recently with next to no information in the description, one just said that the item was really nice .

I try and base my descriptions on what I look for when I’m buying something. I’d be interested to know whether they are up to par?

I will admit that if sellers don’t give a good description it puts me off and I know that’s not a good thing to say but I’m trying to be honest here. A description of a product should have some gusto to it, that tells me that the maker has a passion for what they do… perhaps though as you say it stems from inexperience? So a guide would be helpful for new sellers. I think the best piece of advice I had on Folksy was to describe your product to enable someone with visual difficulties to be able to visualise it.

I think maybe some people are shy of describing their work also, perhaps because of a lack of confidence, which I can certainly associate with..

That’s interesting because when I asked some friends for feedback on my listings they asked why I was describing the item (eg dark blue with yellow dots on) when that was obvious from the photos.

Buying online is different to face to face. You have to engage the buyer, telling a story. My feedback has always been lovely to have an item described in detail. It draws a customer in.

I saw that one Debby. Sorry but would not buy with that description.

That has always been the quote, describe as you would to someone who cannot see. After all they are only looking at an image. I am trying to have a video going forward of any listing and mention to click on the blog button to view in full. My blog button links direct to YouTube.

Customers love a video.

No me neither Caroline, I once bought off someone and had to email 3 times to ask various questions allmof which should have been in the description, would never do it now.

@artisanhatscraftsstudio absolutely the more detail the better, I try to include as much as possible in the space we have, we do have more characters now than we used to, I often had to narrow some of mine down to fit previously. We do often get people asking why they arn’t selling then when we look at their shops it’s obvious why their products arn’t being found, one photo and often I can’t even tell what the item is from it, no description as such, one or two tags and Folksy send a wealth of info out as you probably already know from recently joining which guides them through setting up, SEO, photography etc.
