I went to Sheffield for a concert and found Fred Alous shop and filled a basket of not strictly essential items plus some birthday gifts for family…aghhh but wait for it….. I put them all back and left empty handed. I remembered as Folksy sellers we can get discount from them so I sent the email required and will order online but omitting my non essential bits. I do need extra strong gutterman threads so might have to order as I can’t finish my bear seams without them but firstly I’m going to look through all my thread boxes to see if I can find any stray colours that I need. I call that a breakthrough. Well done to all of you who have also managed to resist.
Well done Debby, I am proud of you.
Haven’t been very active here for a few days as I have had a trapped nerve in my right arm. Ouch!
But I am still in the game, nothing bought so far this month. Good to see lots of you are still keeping it up!
Well done. I am the same no purchases.
I’ve been reading the comments and a few times this month it’s made me think about what I’m buying and whether I really need it, however, today I failed!! I’ve received more orders than I have yarn for pumpkin baby sets, and I dislike paying postage so had to spend £30 to qualify for free postage
Still holding out but I have shopping lists ready for 1st November!
Ok I failed. Send help!
Bought some vintage ribbon and lace on FleaBay. Hanging my head in shame.
Only defence is I’m doing a few vintage fairs very soon and have run out of trim for my slow stitching kits. I did look on Folksy first, but couldn’t find what I needed.
If anyone has any old lace or ribbon they are destashing, think of me and help keep me on the straight and narrow. It needs to be 20 years or older for the main vintage event I’m attending (they can sniff out repro at a mile) but I could use younger stuff in my retro kits.
I’m hanging my head in shame too
. A customer wanted some cards in a particular theme but I’d run out of stock so had to buy more and then I wanted free postage so I think you know what happened ![]()
Well Sharon and Hilary off to the naughty step you both go. Brenda will be there in her permanent spot, lol.
It’s ok there’s chocolate eclairs today ![]()
Going to have to have a word with Brenda she is making it too welcome for the hopeless cases.

, she knows we need serious counselling!
Hi Sharon @TheOldButton . I have some very old vintage lace I’d be happy to sell. Or at least happy for you to have a look and see if it was something that interested you, with no obligation to buy. Should I send you a message, or put a photo and details here on this thread, or just do a listing and put it on the destash thread, and then if you weren’t interested it could just stay in my shop in case someone else was? I’ve no idea on pricing though. 3.8 metres of lace probably over 50 years old?
Ooh, that sounds lovely Liz @samazama. I’d love to take a look. I don’t mind how you do it.
If you want opinions on a price, maybe others can suggest what they think it might be worth if you share details here. Or you can have a quick look on FleaBay or Et*y for similar items. You can also do Google image reverse search to find similar lace and get a price range that way.
Ok. I took a few photos earlier and quickly prepared a listing and popped it into drafts, because I had a bit of time spare. And had a bit of a squint on Ebay etc to research pricing. Not sure if I came to a correct conclusion or not, but I did see several at over £3 a yard.
So - I will go and press “ list” now and will tag you on here so you know. Then you can have a look. But if it isnt of any interest don’t worry, for my 18p I can see if anyone else pops up in the next 4 months! Any questions just ask.
That is stunning lace Liz - both pieces just jumped into my basket ![]()
Thank you SO SO much. I will catch a post tomorrow - even if the forecasted torrential rain comes!
No rush at all Liz, I won’t need until the beginning of November, so posting next week is fine ![]()
Off on my way to the post office right now!! Customers are few and far between and very important, I couldn’t keep one waiting.
And knowing the post, and the laissez-faire approach to delivering it, it could be November before it arrives!!!
