Non existent paypal payment

Ok, this is odd and not come across this before.
I made a sale yesterday (yes thank you) and usually when I get a sale I also get a notification from paypal to say that monies has been received. I got the notification from folksy ok, and it clearly shows a sale was made, but nothing from paypal, So this morning I checked my paypal account …no activity what so ever. Usually the payment comes in straight away, but this is a very new one on me,
Has anyone else had this experience? does this sometimes lag in this way and then you get the payment later? or has something a bit more serious happened and it going to take a bit of sorting out? For instance I have just read the topic “Non payers” and it seems to me that there really should be a set up in folksy where sellers are only notified of a sale **once the money has been paid into the paypal account.**any suggestions I would be grateful thankyou
and sorry if I posted this in the wrong area.

The only time this happened to me was when a customer had not fully completed the payment process in Paypal. It did show on my dashboard as ‘pending payment’ though so I contacted the customer and got it sorted. Does the sale show as ‘paid’ when you look at the order in your dashboard?

Worryingly yes it does, I guess I will have to contact the customer. Its a shame that folksy does not have the facility to only show that the sale is made once the payment is made… all this does now is wastes everyone’s time in chasing up. sorry I dont mean to have a moan, just a bit frustrated as to why folksy has missed a critical trick here. Thanks for the info.

Daft question time - are you sure they paid via paypal? I just had a look and I can check out from your shop using Stripe so have you checked your stripe dashboard for the payment? (They only send payment received emails if you opt into them)

Actually thats not a bad question really, But as far as I’m aware I discontinued with stripe and should not be available. I will look into this - but I’m very sure I have taken this off on my settings.

Thanks Sasha you are right. So it really wasnt a daft question.
However I am annoyed by this because I was pretty sure I had turned stripe off and didn’t want to continue with them. But it appear I may have only turned the notification of payment off.
There is nothing very clear about stripe which is why I want to get rid of it. Even if I were to put the notification of payment back on, I still have no idea how I can do this, its like a maze of tabs everywhere and i have to go through every single one till i find what I am looking for. Are there other systems that can be used other than stripe? or are they the only one that folksy offers? cant believe I’ve wasted a whole morning because of this.

Thanks again for the help.

Folksy have the option of paypal or stripe, that’s it I’m afraid, it does say on the order which check out method is used (top left of the order just under the time/ date it was received). I use stripe on Folksy, another shopping platform and for invoicing and have no issue with them.
To turn the payment received notification back on you need to log into your stripe dashboard, click on your profile icon (top right of the screen) and then scroll down to the ‘email preferences’ section, check the box(es) for the types of email you want to receive from them then click on the save button (right hand side at the bottom of that section).
If you want to disconnect stripe from Folksy you need to drop an email to support@folksy.co.uk, you should then be able to close down your stripe account. (It needs to happen as 2 separate steps)

Wow! I feel that stripe should come with a manual or something, I have no idea what half of this stuff they have is for! Perhaps a tutorial video or something would help.

to anyone else who struggle with stripe platform, if you are wanting to know how to turn on notification emails you have to go to YOUR PROFILE… that’s right, I thought it would have been under settings as well, but clearly this is probably a bit too much common sense.

Cheers and all the best everyone.

Hi Sasha,
Just found out for myself before you wrote your reply. I got it thanks. however it is clear to me that i still have quite a bit to learn… learning to bloomin read for a start would help. I did not see the "method of payment used " bit at the top left - I have always missed that, Its is true I need my eyes tested as they are starting to get bad now and should be wearing specs.
Thinking about it I may be a bit rash in getting rid of stripe as it does make sense to have other methods of payment… this is the only reason though. I guess I will have to try and make the time to try and learn a bit more about it and see how I can make it work for me, but it is quite complicated and not everyone has the amount of tie needed to get to grips with it. especially if you are dyslexic. (cant believe I actually spelt that right!)
Cant thank you enough Sasha, for your advice and input. I could do with you managing this side of business.
Thanks again and all the best. :+1:

It’s worth finding your way round Stripe enough to see your payments, set up notification emails. Some buyers really don’t like Paypal, and will only use a card-based payment.

It’s also sometimes useful to be able to send someone an invoice directly from Stripe, if you make sales outside Folksy, and not too tricky to do once you’ve done it once!

Oh, and the other benefit is that Stripe’s fees are a bit cheaper - they bundle them up with the Folksy fee so it looks a little more, but they pay those for you and Folksy don’t charge you that separately.

I can see I will be eating my words here.

Seems as though you know what you are doing with it Helen. To which I can only say (in a friendly humorous way) “ya boo sucks” to you. simply because I do not.
Funny enough, though, most of my buyers have been pay pal, I have had only 2 or 3 who have used stripe in the years I’ve been here. So on that basis I still dont think it is all that.
But I do see where you are coming from and who know it may end up getting better if I give it a try. Particularly the separate invoice out side of floksy, as I have on a few occasions have been in the position to sell very local to me and to go through the web site was just over kill when they are standing right next to you with the cash… so I would be interested as to how you go about the sending of invoice part in those types of situations.
Good to see you here btw Helen, i almost feel like I know some one here

I’m always happy to talk people through the myriad of sub menus on stripe (or folksy for that matter).

Invoicing on stripe isn’t really meant for those occasions when there is someone stood next to you with cash, its for the occasions when they have picked up a business card and gone home, thought about it and then dropped you an email saying ‘oh go on then, I’ll treat myself…’

So, once you’ve logged into your stripe dashboard you will see ‘payments’ in the top left ish corner, click on that. You will then see ‘invoices’ in the list on the left hand side of the screen, click on that, you will now have a list of all the invoices you’ve created and a purple button over on the right hand side that says ‘create an invoice’, click on that. This brings up a new screen where you can add the customers details, item details, shipping costs etc and then under the ‘payment’ banner you make sure there is a dot next to ‘email invoice to customer’. You can then preview to make sure everything is right and then send to your customer, they will receive an email with a link in it to a secure site where they can then enter their card details to pay. You will then get an email saying they have paid (if you’ve ticked the appropriate box in the sub menu under your profile ). As Helen says the more you do it the easier it gets and there is normally someone around on here to help out if you get stuck.

(when someone is stood next to me with either cash or card I log the sale through my zettle card processing machine but that is a whole load more sub menus perhaps best saved for another day)
