Postal options

Sorry admin keep thinking of things as trying not to think about my trip to the dentist.

We could do with postal options, so customers can select how they want their order sent and pay extra if urgent. A drop down menu that defaults to the shops normal or they can select quicker etc. Only thought of this as placed an order for some beads this morning and could select how and item was sent with the additional charges.

You need to be putting these suggestions on the user voice thingy and then getting people to vote for them - I suspect both the improvements to variations and ability to have postage options would prove popular

(just had a quick look and there is already a suggestion under review about offering buyers a choice of 1st or 2nd class)

Here is the suggestion for the postage…
Offer buyers a choice of 1st or 2nd class postage – Folksy Support & Knowledge Base (uservoice.com)
127 votes since 2012… we are 2023 and in need of this urgently, maybe a simple 2nd or 1st class so it’s not too complicated to design. I was thinking last night of adding it as a variation for my cards, because it’s gonna be really hard when the prices go up.

ETA: Put 3 votes on it and a comment, it says the proposal is under review, but has been for 11 years and I do think it can make or brake a few shops with the increase coming.

I have left a comment on the user voice thing, an easy one click postage option would be fab and should bring us on Folksy, in line with other platforms possibly?

Plus account people can already link to their RM click and drop account so that customers name/ address automatically transfer over when an order comes in. I think thats what you mean by one click postage.

Aww thanks  sorry just my bad terminology I just meant a check out option for either 1st or 2nd class postage for customers

@theslothscavern and @SeaPinkCards it can’t be as simple as offering customers options of either 1st or 2nd class postage at check out - I have to send the majority of my items special delivery for insurance purposes so I don’t want customers being able to select 1st or 2nd class. Then there is the added complication of what happens if a customer has items from multiple shops in their basket when they check out and the different shops use different classes of postage as standard (or possibly even one shop uses RM and another Evri).
Within a shop you can either set up a listing called ā€˜shipping upgrade’ (run a search to see how others have done it) or use variations so that people can choose. But as a site wide thing it would require a lot of changes and for us to specify more info when setting up the listings.

Agreed that we would need to choose for every listing what we offer as a standard, and it would be optional if you offer an upgrade and what kind of. I send parcels tracked 48, which I would leave as it is if the option for upgrade would be for letter size items like my suggestion of 1st or 2nd class was. When it comes down to my cards though, then I could choose 2nd class as a standard with the option of an upgrade to 1st class.
In no case I’m saying it’s simple as that, BUT it is a very useful tool that it’s being used from the majority if not all selling sites, so I personally feel that we are falling behind. That idea was put down 11 years ago and it deserves to be looked at. If as a seller have to add variations for every single of my items in order to add this ability, then I personally don’t mind if I just choose with 2 clicks what I offer as a standard and what I can upgrade to. A lot of work behind it, probably yes, has the functionality though being thought about and was decided that it won’t work, or was it left and forgotten?

Just had a look to the ā€œpostage upgradeā€ listings.
I am not a plus account, for the simple reason that my listings aren’t yet up to the cost of Ā£7.50. Also, all of my sales are to my already existent customers who I sent to Folksy and they kindly use it to help me out instead of ordering directly, with the exception of literally 2 sales to fellow folksy sellers. Which means, I can have a month or two with 0 sales, so I wouldn’t cover the plus subscription. Having to pay listings for postage upgrade and at the same time paying the fees if someone buys it like it is an actual item, as you can appreciate it will bring me down financially so fast, that I won’t even realise what happened. And no, I cannot absorb the fees in the prices and put prices up, because nobody will buy a card that costs them Ā£10 when it should have cost maximum Ā£5.00, would they? So, the ā€œupgrade listingā€ is definitely not a thing for shops similar to mine. The solution with the variations I think it would work, but with the risk of people adding variations for every item when buying more than one, and you just can’t give them a manual of how to order if that and if the other. It just complicates things so much for them, not all customers are sellers and they don’t know or they don’t/can’t understand the workarounds, risking being very user ā€œunfriendlyā€. It might be me thinking like this so, excuse me if it is :upside_down_face:

Mina you not have to absorb the cost but customers would pay extra if they used an upgraded service. I send 2nd class but if someone wanted something urgently they could select 24 signed for and the extra fee would be added to their basket.

Hi Caroline, My post for the ā€œpostage upgrade listingā€ refers to the option mentioned, of actually creating a listing with the title ā€œPostage Upgradeā€ or something, when customers buy that listing in order to get the upgrade. (for example this listing
Postage Upgrade - Folksy
Which would mean that plus or non plus members actually pay selling fees, and non plus members also pay listing fees. The cost of these fees, would either need to come out of my pocket, (as I would use the money from the listing for the postage), or it would need to be absorbed by the listing, which would put the prices even higher.

Your idea of having the option of upgrading is something I totally agree with, and I totally understand how it works x

I had wondered about this too as am now going to be offering my cards with 2nd class only from October (thanks RM) but as you rightly say if those of us who are not ā€˜plus’ accounts would have to pay for the listing and pay the commission and fees if someone selected it, where usually postage isn’t included in fees as a rule.
It’s quite depressing actually.

Yeah, I’m certain this option is not for me. Postage seems to be a real headache at the moment, so I’m looking in having it incorporated into the price with 2nd class as a standard. It would be great to have the option of offering the upgrade to those who can and want to pay it though (a service that I found myself using a lot lately)… I wouldn’t mind the extra fees in that case, I can take the hit if it makes it easy in the long term, but paying for listings as well (and relists if necessary) is way too much.
