Hi everyone - I had an order this week which was paid via Stripe, but according to my Stripe account that payment wouldn’t have been covered by the new SCA which is coming in soon. Does anyone know what I need to do in my Stripe dashboard so that it accepts Folksy payments without it conflicting with this SCA thing? Or is this something Folksy need to do at their end? Bit confused!
I think the September SCA deadline has been pushed back now, but I’d still feel happier knowing it was all in place and what had to happen in readiness for it. (and yes, the stuff on Stripe totally confuses me too!)
Hi Sarah. It’s been an absolute nightmare from our point of view, with so much conflicting advice. We have been working on it behind the scenes for months, but it is very complicated and, honestly, I don’t fully understand it either. The information I do have is that it’s us (Folksy) that needs to make sure all payments that go through Stripe are compliant, so the onus is on us as a platform rather than you as a seller. However it does seem to have been pushed back, which is a relief. I will ask Doug to explain it and see if we can either write an update on the blog about it or update you here.
Lovely, thanks very much Camilla - I use Stripe on my website too, and I know the developer behind my cart was loathing it too, so I don’t think you’re alone (and I think the confusion everyone is having is probably one of the reasons why its been pushed back)! Good luck - especially to Doug!!
Fabulous, thanks so much Camilla - that’s one worry I can tick off my list at least! And thank you so much for using my ‘Love It’ plaque - I had no idea how apt it was for the subject of SCA until I saw them side by side like that: sums it up perfectly!!!
Thanks for bringing this up @PhotoFairytales I was a bit worried about it too as I’ve had a few emails from them telling me to update my Stripe account ready for September and totally confused about it.
I know, it threw me into panic too - I use Stripe for my website too, and spent a whole day fannying about trying to understand it and stressing when they first started sending those emails! Stripe are great, but they do speak in a very confusing tech language for us lay-folk! Thankfully the September date has been pushed back (can’t remember to when, I have a feeling it hasn’t quite been confirmed), but it’s still reassuring to know Folksy have it in hand
(On a slightly different subject, I did actually talk to Stripe about what will happen to their fees after Brexit, and they said that they don’t have any plans at the moment to change from their existing fee structure, so that’s good news as they charge more if you’re outside the EU.)
