Shop name feedback

Hi (again, sorry!). Might be a bit late for this question since I’ve jumped in and made my account already, but I’ve agonised over this question for months, and now I finally have people I can ask for opinions who might be able to give me some constructive feedback.

I’m going to be selling a few different things - mostly sea glass & sterling silver/ copper jewellery, along with decorative driftwood hangers etc, and also some fibre items, starting with Fair Isle bookmarks, maybe handspun/ woven things in future. So I need to keep my shop name quite general. And I want the feel of the shop to be quite rustic and quirky, rather than polished and sleek. I’m not a polished or sleek person!

I settled on The Hermit’s Bothy because I liked the rustic feel of it, and because it describes me quite well - I work out of my tiny cabin (that I call the Bothy), and because I’m quite a hermit these days! I also wanted something with a Scottish word in it, or some reference to the place in some way, as there’s a chance I’ll be selling to cruise ship passengers, and they want souvenirs… the more Outlander-ish the better, much as it pains me.

But… I just have this little niggle that this name won’t suit the jewellery. I think it goes well enough with the bookmarks and other bits. I’m just picturing the logo stamped on earring cards, and I’m not sure!

The other couple of names that made the shortlist were Highland Oddities (like the much-used Highland Odyssey), or The Bothy Boutique. I abandoned that last one because someone already has an air BnB (+ website and social media) called the Boutique Bothy, and I think it’s too close.

Thoughts and opinions very welcome!

I think it’s a good, descriptive ‘umbrella’ term for all the things you make including jewellery. It wouldn’t put me off having it on an earring card.:slightly_smiling_face:

I like the name a lot, and I think the logo you are considering would fit well with jewellery. The name gives you a USP, and gives you scope to add different disciplines to your shop stock.

I too think the name is fine. I must admit I don’t pay a lot of attention to the names of shops, too busy looking at the items! Unless it is something really weird that catches my eye, in which case it would put me off rather than entice me to buy!

I love your shop name, I can’t imagine why it would have any negative impact on your jewellery sales.

Hi, Andrea here. I love the name, especially in the font you’ve used. Reminds me of ‘The Hobbit’ and fits really well with your jewellery.

Thanks for the feedback @brokencolourmosaics ! I just went through all the Word fonts, and that one caught my eye as soon as I saw it. Maybe it caught The Hobbit vibes from it too - Tolkien’s by far my favourite author!
