Unreal statistics?

I’ve had a couple of odd statistics lately. Something I removed from sale about a fortnight ago has featured in the most viewed items on two occasions. The item is not for sale, not hidden, not in sold items simply because I sent it to a gallery. There is no image or description of it anywhere in my shop as I deleted it completely when I sent it to the gallery, yet it features as a most viewed item. How can this be? And thus how reliable are the other statistics?

Hi Judy, good question! I often wonder how the statistics really work too, as sometimes they don’t seem right. I’ll be interested in the reply.

Items that are expired/ hidden/ sold can continue to get views because people are following old links that they have found on eg pinterest. However if the item is deleted that shouldn’t be the case - are you sure the date range doesn’t include a period when it was available in your shop? That’s normally what I forget to alter.

I think what you say might be the case with regard to old links. I did put an image on Pinterest after I first made the piece, and I have found that the piece in question is still lurking in ‘out of stock’ so perhaps the viewing originates on Pinterest and they are then able to see it as listed in out of stock items. I thought that I had completely deleted it, but it remains in out of stock items. Thanks Sasha! At least I know people are interested in that particular design. I am still learning my way around Folksy and the processes, so I appreciate the help!

That makes sense!

Happy to help - the ‘why’s this sold out item still getting views’ is a remarkably common question. And it would suggest that if it doesn’t sell at the gallery then it will get snapped up from your folksy shop.

Yes Annamaria it does make sense - I mistakenly thought the out of stock items were only viewable by the shop owner. I have made more in a similar style, and I am waiting to have a kiln firing so will be able to put them on Folksy when they’re ‘cooked’! I hope the three I sent to Cambridge Contemporary Crafts will go to good homes from there.

People can’t see your out of stock items if they’re just browsing your shop (unless they were also in your “sold items” list), but old links will still take them to the listing page, but will now show “unavailable” where the buy button used to be. It’s a good way to make sure people can still get to your shop to browse your other items or contact you if they like what they see on an old post.

Thanks Kim. I think I’d better start keeping a notebook of all this! As you say, it’s a good way to keep the item in the public eye even though it’s not available at the moment - until I have another firing of the three I have made in a similar design. It’s not in ‘sold items’ as it was not sold through Folksy, but sent to a gallery. I am a Basic level Folksy-er, thus I have paid my 15p so it seems a good idea to leave the piece where it is, in out of stock items where it can be ‘stumbled upon’!
