Wedding Fair - getting involved

Hey, I’ve chosen some of my jewellery pieces that I think work well for the Wedding Fair promotion this week but have yet to find any of them on the pages eg Wedding Earrings. I have put tags on them, is there anything else I should do? (I see some makers have managed to get lots of pieces visible, including one with 88 necklaces on the first 3 pages of Wedding Necklaces, so I’d love to know the secret!) Cheers Mandie

No, none of my pieces are among the jewellery, looks like we have to re-categorise them under -‘wedding - necklaces’ ‘wedding - earrings’ etc, whereas I thought we were supposed to tag them ‘folksy weddings 26’

Thank you, yes that’s what I thought the tag was, ok will try that!

Looks like there are a lot of items in the wedding jewellery categories that aren’t what I would associate with weddings!

Mandie, looks like that tag gets you into the bit headed ‘the folksy wedding fair showcase’

Yes, definately a lot of niche items! Ok I’ll try weddings-necklaces, but looking at a couple of necklaces that I wouldn’t associate with weddings, the makers haven’t put any tags on the products to do with the wedding fair yet their necklaces are showing up under Wedding Necklaces which is a little odd!

Things like the 'wedding earrings ’ is linking to the category so to get your items in there you need to recategorise them - weddings/jewellery/earrings.

Ah I see, thank you!

@GlintBeads I just realised you said to re-categorise my products, I was thinking tags! (Middle aged brain!!), thanks again

Frankly, having looked at what is in the wedding categories, I am leaving mine in jewellery

EEK I got a wedding fair banner on the front page just now and it is fuzzy !! Made my eyes try to focus until i realised it is just poor resolution.

I’m on my laptop and feel i need to refocus my eyes.
Maybe because it has an oddly vanilla background pretending to be white but my eyes don’t like it at all. The little couple top right are very definitely out of focus however i look at them and that mix of thick inky font and then wobbly little script upsets me.

PS fine on my tiny phone screen but i think the resolution is just not good enough when expanded onto a laptop screen.

@ImogenGeorgeJewellery The Wedding Fair page has a mix of content, the Wedding Fair Showcase (The Folksy Wedding Fair Showcase - Gift Guides - Folksy) is the one you tag into, and I can see you currently have 2 items on page 4 and 3 on page 6 (the guides are ordered by recency, so if you want an item on page 1 you need to relist it).

There are also some curated gift guides with items selected by the Folksy team, links to category pages where it shows every item that’s been listed in that particular category and links to blog pages, which may also feature more items selected by the author. This gives a wide variety of different items and means a greater chance of everyone being included somewhere.

We don’t strictly monitor categories as sellers should be able to determine what is the best fit for their items, and different people may have different ideas on what they’d want for a wedding, however it does sometimes seem that people use the weddings category just in the hope of it getting them extra views. For some items it could actually cause lower views though, as if it’s not an item with a clear wedding vibe, the buyers shopping in this category aren’t likely to be interested, and the buyers that might be interested aren’t going to think of looking under weddings for an item like that, so are more likely to be looking in the generic jewellery/clothing category (or whichever is relevant for the item) and miss the chance of seeing it. It can be good to have some items in the standard category and some in weddings IF the item feels clearly relevant to weddings, but if not, it’s best to just stick to the standard (that’s general advice and not just specific to this event).

@kimfolksy Thank you for your reply. Yes, aside from my own misunderstanding regarding my products, when looking through wedding necklaces I must admit the first few pages didn’t personally feel very relevant. But, as you say, sellers may different ideas as to what constitutes wedding jewellery. Anyway, hopefully this promotion will work well for Folksy, Mandie
