I’m back from the church fete, had a good run on cards and sold an unframed painting too so I’m happy
Pretty lavender abstract Hazel.
It’s swings and roundabouts Brenda. There is a theory that if you don’t value your work then why should anyone else…so I’m testing it out over on artfinder. I’ll let you know how it goes! I agree that the bay is very different, an auction needs to start out quite low to work - I usually start mine at £1.50 or £1.99 over there (all miniatures) and that’s what they usually sell for. I’ve not quite got the following for bidding wars yet sadly.
Pretty lavender abstract Hazel. Sounds like you did well at the fair Stephie. I’ve been out with the parents for a cream tea in the sunshine and now I have to get tea. No painting time yet, maybe later.
But everyone I know values a bargain more…Unless you are a “recognized” artist people will not pay high prices…I have tried it and obviously I don’t value my work enough and nor does anyone else, because unless it is cheap it doesn’t sell.
Brenda behave yourself! I value my aceo of yours and admire it often, and I think it’s worth more than the £4 that I paid for it I do see your point, it is just as valid to sell lots at a low price as it is to sell less at a higher price. As I say, I’m just testing out the theory. The reason I joined artfinder is because someone I know through fb joined recently and has sold two 30cm square acrylics at £120 each already.
I took all my aceo and miniature collection to the fair today and didn’t sell any. I had loads of easels and had priced them at £6 each including the easel. The only real interest was from very small kids who had less than a pound to spend.
Afternoon all, been out and about today visiting dad who I have to say was quite good today no phantom trains or planes to catch today, poor love was so confused last week he was convinced we were waiting for a train. We all went for a coffee today which was nice
Ah the great price debate, always a sticky one! I admit I have no ground rules for this I just price pieces at what I feel is right I can have several the same size but listed at different prices, subconsciously it’s probably because I don’t want them to sell so charge more lol! Ironically it’s usually those that do sell then. I’ve not listed any on the bay for a while, the last few times it took days to get paid and for the very little profit it wasn’t worth the hassle chasing buyers. Hubs says I need to bring back Molly, well I have a few days off so I might just do a few and see how they go.
Stephie it will be interesting to see how you do on artfinder.
Max…who is Molly?
I had to chase a buyer on the bay last week and he moaned when I blocked him from future sales…he always pays when he feels like it…sometimes 2 -3 weeks later and never responds to emails…He couldn’t understand the problem until I pointed out that IF he had responded to my 5 messages then it might not have happened…too much hassle, so he is blocked.
Love the thistle pic and the seagull on the roof top lovely work everyone! I made my first sale today! Thank you again Liz Lothian and for all ur support ladies. I’m still getting the hang of folksy but love this forum x
Congratulations Jannine I love that painting of Gwithian, it’s my all time favourite beach. Here’s a painting I did of that same beach a couple of years ago (not for sale).
If I were painting it now I would be bolder with the shadows on the lighthouse itself, and I would definitely texturise the sand. It’s amazing how we develop as artists isn’t it?
I’ve only done one picture with the oil pastels, to do the final art academy lesson. I did play around with them a bit, but they’re so like kids crayons that I can’t take them seriously! Obviously there is a lot to learn about how to use them properly.
I remember Molly in that series of lovely ‘old fashioned’ pictures you did. It would be a great idea to bring her back
Had a little difficulty uploading this, tricky using my mobile to chat etc but slowly getting the hang of it… As artists we are forever developing and learning within our art practices… I for one am rarely ever happy with any of my pieces… It’s hard to know when to stop sometimes
