Weekly Natterings 24/8

Ok you may think me strange now but I can’t stand the summer. I get heat stroke easy and my eyes are hyper sensitive to light so really not my season.
I’m looking forward to autumn and winter. Love my jumpers too.

The only summer we had was June/July when it was still Ramadan so all the kids at school were very lethargic! As soon as we broke up, the heavens opened.

Yeah I understand that. Haha my husband always wonders why I like summer so much. I’ve also got sensitive eyes- my pupils don’t react as quickly as they’re supposed to so I pretty much have to wear sunglasses all year round- and I burn insanely quickly- even just standing at my front door for 15 minutes I’ll get sunburned. But I also suffer from SAD, so when it gets to about January/February I just feel awful, really lethargic and just miserable and tired and I just have no motivation. I live right on the north east coast and while we don’t really get snow and most of the time it doesn’t even get frosty because of the salt in the air- it’s still just dark, damp and grey for too many months.

So I guess for me the summer issues out way the winter issues. Haha though this is my first year with an allotment so I’m hoping being outside loads more will help me feel better over winter.

So I didn’t just blink and miss it then. July and August have both been rather wet here, couple of warm, sunny days but not enough of them for me. I’m a nerve damaged freak and my body only starts to work properly when the temperature gets over 25C so I haven’t gotten out of my sheepskin boots and knit wear this year (not quiet true but the month spent in New Zealand for their summer doesn’t count). Hoping for an Indian summer to get the stuff in th poly tunnel/ green house ripe.

Yep- my tomatoes are still green!! :flushed: though I blame the tomatoes as I’ve been happily harvesting chillies, cucumbers etc from the greenhouse.
An Indian Summer would help a lot though- my butternut squash are still just the size of tangerines!

The Sweet peppers are still green, the aubergines have only just set fruit, we’ve had a reasonable number of toms/ cucumbers/ chillis but there is only so much green tom chutney I can make/ eat so I’d rather get them ripe.

Good afternoon…soggy here too…it’s been like it for days.
I was at work this morning and had planned to sew this afternoon, but my kitten, Harley, is fast asleep on my lap,so can’t move.
A work colleague has just lost her dad and she has asked me if I would turn up 2 skirts for her and her mum for the funeral next week…I don’t normally do alterations but decided to make an exception so I need to get them done so that I can get on with other stuff.

Happy Wednesday everyone  I finally have a chance to sit down after catching up with all the weekend’s orders. It was a bit crazy, did everyone get fed up of the rain and just decide to online shopping instead?
I’ve been lucky with my tomatoes this year, they are now mostly harvested along with the cucumbers and chillies. What I can’t seem to grow are bell peppers, they start really well and then kind of give up and refuse to ripen  and don’t even get me started on sweet corn  But on the upside I have managed to grow some mini watermelons this year  I can’t wait to try them!
Right, I have a cup of tea waiting and a HUGE decision of my own to make! What should I watch tonight? The Manchester United match or bake off LOL or will I be able to stay awake long enough to watch bake off on the iplayer? Decisions decision lol

Well, I just spent the afternoon buying a sofa and a chair! Our old ones are in a state of total collapse, so there was no other option. Surprisingly, the sofa shop had a sale on, so we “saved” some pennies. Can’t wait to see what the cats make of it all in 10-12 weeks time. Bet it chucks it down on the day they get delivered!

What a miserable day weather wise today, but such a perfect knitting day!
Kim @KBCreations did you know a cat gives off an amazing amount of heat, something silly like 4W!! In our house nobody moves if they have the cat on their lap!!
My tomatoes seem to have ripened up nicely and we have had some fantastic cumcumbers, but like you Donna @RedDragonDesigns I really dont know what has happened to the sweetcorn, nor butternut squash, and please dont mention cucamelons. However the blueberries, oh wow!!!
One day I will get a new sofa Rhiannon Rose @RhiannonRoseJewellery, ours is 25 years old, and the linen covers are just holding together, it is covered in Ikea blankets and fleeces. I really dont want a new one, as this one is lovely and deep and is used as an emergency bed. What I really want is to find 20m of beautiful fabric and make new covers, but economically it seems cheaper to buy new. I hope your new one last as long as ours!

Lol, Suzzie @thistledownandHOPE I don’t know how old these sofas were! we acquired them 11 years ago from a charity shop. Ironically the covers were fine, but the innards were just broken. As in, depending on where you sat, you would sink (or not). We hadn’t realised how bad they were until we went to my Mum’s a week or so back and sat on her sofas!

I am really excited that Mr Amazon has just delivered me a soldering kit, because I think this make be the key to stabilizing some of the metal creations I’m working on at the moment, but I feel it may not be the best plan to get cracking right now - I’ll save it for tomorrow!

Very quiet now on the forums - guessing everyone is watching GBBO but I’m not really into it - cooking is not my forte. Neither is vegetable growing or any kind of gardening come to that, my garden looks like one big weed bed with some grass in the middle. I feel I really should tackle it and make it look nice but just don’t know where to start! So instead I take to my felting! At long last I have had a bit of time to myself as daughter no 2 has gone off to Leeds fest for the weekend and daughter no 1 doesn’t arrive home until tomorrow afternoon. Managed to make a new scarf and some more Christmas decorations today so am feeling happy, although half way through laying out the scarf I suddenly realised I was starving but couldn’t make dinner as the only way I can get a place long enough to make my scarves is by putting boards along the kitchen counter and across the cooker so I had to finish it first! Now sitting back enjoying the peace and quiet  I expect I will be asleep soon.

Roz @Rozcraftz if I lived near to you, I would come and make a corner of your garden a place you would love to take a cup of coffee/tea and sit in, surrounded by the flowers that inspire your wonderful felted flower scarves.

Hello, do excuse my butting in! Just joined the forums so thought I’d jump straight in and say hello…
I’m currently watching an interesting documentary on Horizon (BBC2) about OCD - much better than Bake Off!

Lol, we were watching a gritty French detective thingy that we recorded a while back. GBBO is so not my thing!

I’m not a fan of GBBO either - I do like to bake but OH is overweight and I don’t want to put temptation in his way. If I do bake it has to be when he’s out and then I hide the results and issue them one portion at a time

We watched a truly awful zombie movie - totally not my thing either but it was my son’s choice and he’s not around much anymore so I take every chance I can to be with him.

Ironically, I love to bake, but I’d rather do it than watch it!

I’m pleased to see I’m not the only one who doesn’t really like bake off.
I have tried to watch it but got bored.

How’s everyone today? What you upto?
I’m going to try and photograph a necklace.
But most important finish off a couple of Xmas decoration sets.
So might have one of those to list too.
Talk later

Good morning all
I didn’t manage to watch GBBO last night as I chose the football, and I’m glad I did, what and great match
OH and I actually met watching a Manchester United match in a pub in Holyhead and he took me to Old Trafford on our first date  and we’ve watched every singe match together now for nearly 6 years so the bake off never really had a chance lol
Having said that I will be watching it this afternoon, so please don’t tell me who got knocked out
I’m off to have a cup of tea and think up some Christmas tea towels now.
I hope you all have a great day.
