What to do?

Hi all, I really wanted to ask your opinion on what to do regarding my shop.
As you know I hand stamp jewellery and am going to continue doing that but I am also starting to put time into my hobby of making wooden cottages and beach huts, some of you might have seen the first few on the challenge thread.

The question is do I list them going forward on my current shop or start a separate one ?

I would just have separate sections in the one shop. But that’s only because the idea of managing 2 shops sounds like a faff. So I would opt for the easy life! It might not make the best business sense, I am not sure on that one, though I cant immediately think why it would have any adverse effect on sales.

Having just looked at your shop I think the new cottages/huts fit in really nicely - a lot of your jewellery has a coastal/beachy vibe and I think they work really well alongside. Generally the advice is ‘stick to a niche’ and to keep a cohesive style/theme so that things don’t get cluttered or confused. But I don’t think that’s an issue here at all, I think they look really good all together

Thanks for the advice, I does seem an easier option to keep everything in one place.
It’s good to know you think the new pieces work well with the jewellery. X

I would have sections in your current shop. Over on E I tried having different shops there and it was such a pain trying to keep on top of both of them.

I’d stick with 1 shop, with different sections. As others have said your products have a similar vibe and appeal to the same customer audience. And you don’t have so many items and different categories that look cluttered. If you develop wider, you can always reconsider expanding into 2 shops in the future - it’s not a once-only opportunity.

For info, I have 2 shops - one for my ready sewn stuff, and 1 for sewing supplies (I’m destashing as I look to downsize). I’m also trying to develop craft kits, and they can sit in either shop so that’s an added complication!!! I tried for ages to just squeeze it all into 1 shop - but as I have multiple audiences and different styles they didn’t always sit together well. I was also struggling to manage everything as I had too many items and too many categories.
So for me at the moment, 2 shops are the solution, but it is extra work and extra set up (different email accounts/log-in details, reconciling payments & accounts etc). And of course 2 sets of Plus fees is a lot, so I stopped the annual fees on the first shop while I am building the second. Unfortunately, that restricts my ability to list and relist in the first shop without incurring extra fee costs. Because of that I timed it for the summer when my sewn products are not as popular (I sell more at Xmas).
However, I suspect that in the future once I’ve cleared my fabric stash and re-focused my product range, I’ll be merging them back together
