Art Chat - May

Morning  thanks for the blue flower love, I rather like this new medium.

It’s dull here today, which is a shame as my local marine lake is having a taster day for people to try dinghy sailing and windsurfing for Ā£5. We’re quite keen (but totally rubbish) windsurfers in my house and I quite fancied having a go in a small one-man dinghy, but it’s way too cold so we’ll just go along to say hi and watch other folk get cold and wet hehe

I have a bird commission that I need to crack on with today, and I’m hoping to get some sketching time at the lake later.

Have a nice day Stephie. We are off to have a coffee and view a local photographic exhibition before getting some shopping I want in waitrose.

Busy week ahead - lots of work (web developer hat on) and painting (planned requests to fill) on the to do list so having a day with out and about with hubby before we get on with a busy week.

lovely flower Stephie…and love the Heron Jeanie…
Cold here this morning but I am not complaining as this is our second year without any of that white stuff.
The aceos will be touring places in South Wales…only 4 of them but it is still extremely kind of the lady to take some of mine to the exhibition.
Max…you might be eligible to send some…I have a document and if I can work out how to forward it to you I can do that…OR I have the organizer’s email…
she can send you the details.
Back in a mo with a listing for today
here you go

Made this girlie yesterday.
I’ve been enjoying playing with my film camera, so I thought it’s about time one of my girls got one.

Afternoon all, fab work all, love the colours in Brenda’s sunset woodland.

Hi Hazel

I’ve just opened a plus account in the last few days as I thought it would be good just to list everything I have but I’ve read a few times about people not renewing their accounts. What did folksy change that effected you (and others)? etsy have made some changes recently and it’s all based on search which I suppose has good and bad points, I do reasonably well over there.

I find on etsy most of my customers find me through search rather than social media. I thought I’d sign up for the year here and just see how it goes. It sounds like you are doing really well on your other sites, you have lovely work in your shop.

Hi Yvonne … thank you for the compliment on my art  I can’t work out why but I just don’t seem to be selling here, as I said, the early part of last year I was doing well here but things changed, the site has had a lot of changes, I don’t know if that has affected my shop or not but I don’t seem to sell much here at all !!! that said as you will read here Brenda and Max are both doing well here, and as Stephie says she is pleased with her shop and they all have plus accounts … I think don’t you guys @StephanieGuy @teabreaks @paperchainsandbeads

what works for one doesn’t always work for another … I also believe in the ā€œebb and flowā€ of things - it seems sometimes sales ā€œgenerallyā€ ebb and flow so this may just be the case for me on folksy at the moment. I will leave me shop open until all my listing end so I will be around for several months yet as my renewal has a way to go yet … who knows things might change again yet

Hope you do well here - all the best with your shop

Hazel

Hi all…fab work today and glad to see lots of people chatting on here too.
Re the plus account…I thought I would give it a try because at Ā£45 that is almost what I spend per MONTH on the bay…ok, so I know I sell well on there but at HALF the price,. I also thought about the fact that I often used to stand at craft fairs without covering my table…and paid Ā£25 a time (sometimes, more, sometimes less) but the PLUS account is less that TWO craft fairs and I don;t have to leave the comfort of my chair (painting while watching tv.)
Over the years, I have trawled the country doing fairs, house parties and demos and often with little or no reward. I have already covered my fee since I started on here and also I find it much easier if someone on facebook likes a painting, I can send them to my folksy shop and just quickly list it on here, which saves me having to send invoices etc. Folksy do it all for me.
I have in the past missed sales on facebook because the person just put under the painting that they wanted to buy it…now I can just tell everyone that I have an art page with a direct link to Folksy and not only can they come and buy their painting, but might also see something else. I no longer have to think about the fees…they are PAID…right round until nerxt March. Hope some of my thoughts help.
Here is my second listing for the day

Hi Hazel

Thanks for getting back to me. I had a look at Brenda @teabreaks , Maxine @paperchainsandbeads and Stephanie’s @StephanieGuy shop and I do see what you mean - they are all doing really well, that’s good to see. Maybe you are right and it is the ebb and flow of things, I hope it does pick up for you on here again. I’m too early days yet to get a feeling for my own shop, I’ll just keep going with the listings - I’m committed for the year now so there’s no backing out  :fearful:

Hi Brenda

I must admit I did think the Ā£45 for the plus account seemed good value, it sounds like it works really well for you. I thought even if I loose all the money it’s worth the gamble for a whole year without having to worry about listing fees. I wish all the sites offered this

I agree Brenda, that is one of the advantages of the plus account …

It may be Yvonne … if things change I would keep the plus account but it needs to pay its way  I am doing great in my other outlets, my own website and direct sales is at its highest at the moment, which is great as there are no fees there, lots more work but no fee !!! I am ever the optimist and will see how things go …

Anyway … back to art this is one of my recent ACEO pictures

afternoon all, been in the garden today, 7 pots done and some more digging!.

Hi Yvonne, welcome :). I’m now into my 3rd year of a plus account (also my third shop) used to have separate art and jewellery shops but closed both in favour of one when the plus account came in and I think for me it’s very good value. I’m also a member of the daily listing club (May Blossoms) and have been since it started some 3 years ago so I list a new item most days, the cost of listing individually would have been in the region of Ā£70 if I only listed 300 days of the year so it’s definitely more economical for me, I also re-list a few items every day to keep items at the top for searches. Good luck

right off to sort pics for next weeks listings!

Edit! ps meant to say fab work everyone !

Cute Heron Jeanie, hope you’re having a good day.

Brenda is it an aceo exhibition? That’s awesome. Love the colours in your golden woodland.

Lowri your girlie is very sweet.

Fab colours Kelly.

Waving Margaret :raising_hand: is it a gardening day? Hubs says everything is very slow this year.

Hello Yvonne, welcome! I love your style, it’s refreshing to find new artists. As Hazel says I’m very happy with my plus account - it has paid for itself many times over and I don’t need to worry about what I list. And as Brenda says, customers heading over from fb often buy more than one when they get here.

Max that garden overhaul will keep you entertained for some time!

I didn’t do any painting at the lake, it was SO cold and the cafe was full of kids who had just done a charity seaside walk, so we went to Costa instead. Got my bird commission done (can’t show you til the end of May sadly) and started on a peacock on handmade paper. Doesnt’ he look evil without an eye?!

Hi Maxine

It does sound like the plus account is working really well for you. I’ll maybe give the daily listing club a shot next month too if I’m sure I’ll be able to fulfil it - that sounds a good idea and fun. I love that with the plus account you can relist items frequently for free, that’s a big bonus  Thanks for your help and advice.

Yvonne

Hi Stephanie

Thanks for the warm welcome and the compliments on my style  It does sound like the plus account is working really well for you too, that’s great to hear. I think I’ll focus on really trying to get my shop stocked up and see how things go.

Your peacock is looking beautiful, lovely colour palette.

Yvonne

Hi Yvonne, welcome to the Art Chat thread, love your style and the kingfisher ACEO in particular, that’s my favourite

Stephie, your peacock is coming along nicely. No I haven’t been gardening today but went for a longish walk along our local river. It’s been too blustery to do much gardening this weekend.

Gorgeous ACEO Hazel, so very pretty

Beautiful roses Brenda.
