Hi all. If you’ve always wondered how to get Shopping Tags on your Instagram posts and stories – so people can buy directly from your Folksy shop – we have a new article on the blog that tells you how. https://blog.folksy.com/2020/06/18/set-up-instagram-shopping-for-your-folksy-shop
Sorry we didn’t post it on the forum earlier - we wanted to check the instructions worked and sort out any niggles before sharing it. Thanks to everyone who has tried it and shared their experiences and tips in the Folksy Clubhouse (particularly @SashaGarrett @EllyRowbothamPrintmaker and @sianvernon). Based on that feedback, we’ve added an extra troubleshooting step at the end.
Hopefully it will work for all of you, but if you do have any problems setting it up, let us know in the comments below and we (or other sellers!) may be able to help you out.

I followed this and yes it works but all the products I had previously tagged in my Instagram shop have now lost their tags! I had set them all up manually previously and had no trouble except it was time consuming. I have nothing showing in my Instagram shop now because everything is under review. I added an item from the other platform that I have a couple of items still on manually like I used to previously and it is the only product showing up.
That’s brilliant! Thank you. I have successfully managed to link my Folksy shop to Instagram. It only took 20 minutes for Instagram to approve it. Helen

Hi Helen, @Lellibellecards I got completely stuck at the point where I was trying to find out how to fill my catalogue on my Facebook page. How did you do it? I’d be very interested to know.

Hi. Sorry, only just seen your message. Have you managed to do it yet? Helen

Hi Helen @Lellibellecards, yes I did thanks but it was a bit of a marathon. I finally submitted my account to Instagram for approval to receive the message: Instagram Shopping is Not Available for This Account. I have no idea why but I am now giving up. I suppose it was worth a try. Thanks for offering to help.

I’ve just had a message from Instagram to say that my account is not approved for Instagram Shopping so that’s that!

Oh no, I wonder why? Helen
I expect it is to do with the tags I’ve used but I will never actually know why. Never mind.

Hi. I followed all the instructions and have been approved by Facebook Shopping, but like you Heather @leavalleyart I too have a message from Instagram to say that my account is not approved for Instagram Shopping too. I don’t understand Helen @Lellibellecards. All I sell is greeting cards and the occasional print. I wonder if it’s because I use too many Folksy hashtags for Folksy Friday. SallyAnn

That’s really strange isn’t it? I had no idea the type of hashtags you use could stop you using Instagram Shopping x

This is a link from Instagram for ‘Set Up Requirements for Instagram Shopping’. Might be useful?

SallyAnn - you need to change some settings on your facebook page
you need to have ‘shopping and retail’ first - you can have the others afterwards but shopping and retail has to be first. Once I’d made that change I was approved. Ths is mentioned in the trouble shooting section at the end of the blog post.
Try changing ‘product/ services’ in your FB about section to ‘shopping and retail’.
Oh thanks very much Sasha @SashaGarrett. Have done that, but when I then went into Set Up Instagram Shopping again (On Instagram) it still came up with “Your Account Wasn’t Approved”
Can I appeal? Or what is the next step? Shall I start again from the very beginning?
Thanks very much for your help.

Delete instagram and then reinstall it - a light palette cleanse for it so it forgets what it was looking at on FB and looks a fresh - then have a look to see if it will let you reapply. If it still won’t then you might have to follow the steps in this https://www.socialmediaexaminer.com/how-to-get-approved-instagram-shopping-product-tags/ you’d probably only need to do the bit about disconnecting your IG from your FB and then reconnecting it as FB should now be set up properly.
