Instagram?

So I have just signed up to Instagram

But not really sure what it can do for me is it just sharing photos and can you tag your folksy shop into it aswell. I’m sure these are dim questions but have no idea about it but it seems a big platform.

I have been a member for a while but not really used it much yet - waiting on getting a phone with a camera that works! Think its all about photo sharing but you can annotate your photos with a short description. Don’t think you can tag your shop/website in comments but you can add it to your profile - I have seen comments on there with " link to shop in profile" on. I will be following this thread with interest as I want to know what its all about too!

BTW there are a couple of other threads on this subject which might help

Ahh wonderful I shall have a read of these later as I have no clue but lots of people talk about it.

Thank you for replying

Very timely - I was asking my 18 year old daughter about this yesterday. She said not to bother, but it is high profile at the moment.

Ive heard of it but Im not sure if its just for pics taken by your mobile phone or can you add camera photos?
I wouldnt mind joining, I just dont know much about it.

I use it and I get sales from it. But for me it’s not all about my shop at all. I think people get pretty bored if all you do is essentially use it as an advertising tool.
I have had Instagram for years longer than I’ve been selling so for me it’s just another social network. Much like my private facebook page but with a bit more focus on what I make & sell. (Don’t want to bore my Facebook friends with all that)

Hashtags are used just like on Twitter as well. They’re really helpful.

I use it and have gained proper followers, that I interact with, I have had a few sales from it too.
I tend to follow back but I have found the large follwers just dump you, a bit like Facebook. So I select who I follow back. I never used to use hash tags when I first started out, but have recently found out their importance.

I have been on it for about a year and a half and have found it very useful to sell on and to direct people to my Folksy shop. I post photos of ceramic items I am making but also things I like etc. I now have 3500 followers!

I signed up some time ago and couldn’t make much sense of it - having another look now.

First thing was I got the “Insecure Connection” message when trying to click through to Stephanie’s Folksy shop, so that’s not too encouraging.

Think I’ve followed you all. Personally not thrilled about having to do everything via phone, so this might not be for me, but I’ll give it a go.

Good post @curiousseagull I find it hard to figure out what to instagram vs Facebook vs Blog. Don’t want to bore everyone with constant posting and products… https://instagram.com/elliepressuk

Hi. I started using instagram about 3 weeks ago. It reminds me slightly of pinterest but there isn’t a link attached to the photo. Firstly I looked for people to follow based on handmade items crafts crochet etc and liked lots of photos just to get noticed. Then I began posting photos of my items you can add a link to your shop in the description and tag the photo so it gets seen. Some days are slow but some days you can really get noticed. I also like to put up photos of work in progress and a few about my life in general it lets people know you’re a human being! But also gives you and your items a personality.
