Monastery Garden shop

Does anyone know if Monastery Garden have closed their Folksy Shop? I wanted to re-order a pot of their Lip Balm, and can’t find them via a shop search, and didn’t think to put them in my favourites so that I could buy again. I will do a Google search and see if they sell online direct if they have closed, but would rather buy thru Folksy if poss.

I’ve just searched their shop from my previous purchases and it’s coming up as shop name Anon, so it looks like they’ve gone :frowning: Such a shame! Their soaps and hand balms are my favourites.

They do have a website but the shop link used to direct people to buy from Folksy.

Thanks Natalie. From a Google search it looks like the balms are available from their shop at the Monastery, but in the text it says that regretfully they do not send items by post any more. What a shame, it was the best lip balm I ever used. A trip to Norwich is a long way for me to go!

Yes, they have closed their shop. I have, in the past, bought from their website and I had an email from them back in the summer saying that the demands of running their Folksy shop was getting in the way of pursuing their spiritual practice so they were going to close it.

Yes I had that email too and I was sad because I love their products.

@MaisyMuffin @leavalleyart @MoreTeaVicarKnitwear I think they must have fallen victim to their own success as their products were lovely, but I can see that running a thriving business might not be compatible with their calling.

They were in the best sellers list for weeks over the second lockdown, so I can totally understand that. Maybe we should have a Folksy Forum coach trip to visit them and buy up as much as we can

I have 1 soap left (I used to buy a few at a time), I’m going to savour it when I open it and make it last as long as possible.

Just looked at the website, shame they have gone.

My great aunt was in a Carmelite convent but based in France. Went on a retreat when younger it was so peaceful and rejuvenating.

I’m at the bottom of my pot of lip balm, so no more for me sadly. I have a pot of their lavender hand cream though, which I keep by the kitchen sink. I’ll have a look what other lip balms are available on Folksy failing the coach trip!

Oh no! I am just scraping the last from my hand cream pot. I loved Monastery garden, their pretty packaging, their soaps and creams and bees.

I believe when they closed here, they were top of the best sellers chart! I’m halfway through my last pot of hand balm, good stuff and it lasts and lasts.

For anyone looking for an alternative to the nun’s hand balm I can recommend the hand salves by Ginette of The herbal soapmaker (Salves by The Herbal Soapmaker on Folksy) , I’ve had pots from the nuns as well as tins from Ginette and found them equally good. (she also does lip balms but I’ve not tried those)

@SashaGarrett Thanks Sasha I’ll have a look. I was hoping someone might recommend an alternative!

Hi All,
Im sorry too to hear about The Monastery Shop. I thought their shop looked lovely and clearly their products were excellent as they sold so much!
I have limited stock of lip balms left but will be making some more very soon. I also make a range of healing salves. If I can be of help to anyone please let me know.

@ginettesmith Hallo Ginette. I had a look at your lip balms earlier and would like to give them a try but I have incredibly sensitive skin and wondered if you had any thoughts about producing unflavoured ones, or ones with very limited flavour. The Monastery Garden one which was ideal for me was just honey and lemon, and there was virtually no lemon taste, it simply tasted very slightly of honey which suited me down to the ground. If not, I’ll order your vanilla…

Hi Judy,

I have supplies coming this week hopefully and I can make you an unscented one no problem.

Funnily enough I tried to order some honey oil today but its out of stock

Will keep trying.

Best wishes

Ginette

@ginettesmith That would be absolutely wonderful! Thank you so much. If you let me know how to buy it from you I will do so, or will you put it in your shop? Just email me direct through my shop to let me know how best to do that.

I’ve bought this thread up just to report that I’ve been on holiday to Norfolk with my brother and his wife and the journey from the caravan site back to their house took us through Quidenham so we decided to go to the monastery shop. It was tricky to find but we made it in the end and through that arched door were all their soaps and balms for sale. All so lovely, and I bought 3 hand balms.

Thanks for posting this lovely image. It’s good to know that they are still making all their products, and I would love to see them back on Folksy, but understand why they drew back from it. If I am ever in that part of the world I will visit.
