I have just looked at some items on Folksy and where it used to have the black bar which said ‘google pay’ or ‘apple pay’, it now has a green bar with ‘link, pay faster’ in it. Is this still the same thing or has it changed? I’m unsure of clicking on something when I don’t know what it is…
Hey @KBCreations it could be specific to your device. Do you happen to have a screenshot of it?
I also have the green bar that Kim @KBCreations describes, if I can remember how I will do a screen shot.
Here you go, green bar above the “Add to Basket” bar. Is it something new, or just different wording?
Thank you @plumporridge I can never remember how to do a screen shot. It used to be easy when you could just use the ‘print screen’ button but that doesn’t work for me anymore…
I have to google it every time I want to do a screen shot, I can never remember either! The green bar unnerved me a bit, I think I first noticed it yesterday when I was about to buy something.
Yes, I spotted it yesterday when clicking on links to shop items on the forum and it made me uneasy as I haven’t seen this before. Previous to that I usually see a black bar with google pay on it. I’m always suspicious of this type of thing.
Thank you @plumporridge and @KBCreations. I’ve got Apple Pay showing up but the green button is from Stripe (https://stripe.com/gb/payments/link) so it’s fully secure. Each button shows up depending on the information available, so perhaps if you have an existing Stripe account it’s promoting this link button over Apple Pay or Google Pay.
I e got this too and I don’t like it, have asked a few people what they think and the answer is ‘ I wouldn’t use it, doesn’t make sense and could be anything’ so I’m worried this could be off putting for some. If it said what it was ie ‘Stripe’ one click payment or something it might be better.
Totally agree with you. I’m always suspicious of clicking on any links and I just don’t do it unless I’m 100% sure of what it is, and I think that a lot of people are the same. If it said ‘google pay’ ‘Applepay’ or ‘paypal’ at least people would know where it is going but ‘Link’ doesn’t tell them anything and I’m not sure that it would be any better if it said ‘stripe’ as I’m sure most people haven’t heard of that either. I’m rather glad now that I haven’t signed up to stripe as that green bar will not be there in my shop items.
Just so you are aware, I don’t have a stripe account…
Thanks @KBCreations that’s insightful to know, I thought you did
I’ve only really become aware of Gpay. The other day I was looking at someone’s listing for some reason or other and accidentally hit the button, without even getting as far as adding to basket and stopped short… thinking I was quite likely about to accidentallly buy something… which was very expensive.
Just did the same on my own listing and could very easily have bought my own piece (and i was signed in too so not happy that I can do that anyway !). I left the screen up while i did something else and came back to find a message to say payment had failed… thank goodness.
Is it really supposed to be so easy that some can accidentally pay for something without even putting it in their basket AND more importanltly, if they do and want a refund or if they did it deliberately… how do we do a refund ???
We would do a refund in the normal manner via stripe. Gpay is a digital wallet that auto fills in your card details rather than an additional payment processor.
But why does it act without first having to add to basket. I find that most surprising and don’t think I would ever risk paying for anything like that.
Also. If this is new technology and more than 50% of purchases are now done by mobile … does it not appear when I use my phone.
Really rather puddles by it
If you don’t see it on your phone then you’ve not set Gpay up on your phone. (I don’t see it on any of my devices as I’ve not set up Gpay or any of it’s predecessors like google wallet or google pay).
My understanding is that where people do see Gpay (so the customer has it set up and the shop is set up for stripe) that they also see an ‘add to basket’ button like normal thus giving them the quicker checkout option and also the more standard check out option.
Thanks Sasha. That makes sense re my phone But I haven’t set Gpay on my laptop and I get it there.
Check your google account settings on your laptop - its possible at some point when you were buying something it said ’ do you want us to remember your details for next time’ and you accidentally said yes so have it set up without knowing. (Possibly happened a while back and its now an out of date card saved hence the payment failing)
That is a good thought and even if my current card is the one there it will expire in a couple of months so I will be careful not to hit that button again.
