I expect most of you are aware but just in case Royal Mail have reintroduced the collection charge, currently 30p per parcel.
shooting themselves in the foot a little bit more…
Not if you have your dhop integrated with Click & Drop
See this thread
Royal Mail Click and Drop/ Collect charge
You can just build the 30p into your postage charges, same as sellers who offer 'Free Postage ’ it’s built into the item price, just saying ![]()
I can’t do that Helen.. @HelenCliffordArt .too complicated for me and I have no idea what it means to integrate something… I want my items collected as I cannot get to the post box… I struggle with apps and IT stuff.
Steve @linthamdesigns If I increase my postage charges any more it will cancel out the few sales that I get…If I increase the cost of my cards then people will just not buy any more. It is bad enough that the PO has increased the cost of stamps and if people buy more than 5 cards, the extra ( per item) charge for postage, would not cover the extra 30p charge. and would also be unfair on those who only bought 2 or 3 cards and incurred the higher 2nd price… and I don’t want the aggro of doing refunds.
I am aware of that Steve been in business a looonnng time.
Don’t think it will be long before they start changing the intergrated accounts, as the bigger businesses still have to send out 1000’s a year before they even qualify to get a collection and still have to pay for it
Okay, but my comment wasn’t necessarily meant for you, just the community as a whole,
I’ve just found that if I buy postage through Parcel2Go I can still get my collection for free ![]()
That’s a good find Sarah @PhotoFairytales
Although they only have insurance/parcel protection up to £50. Going direct with Royal Mail gives £150 insurance/parcel protection.
The amount can be increased with Parcel2Go but I can’t seem to find how much that would cost. If more than £50 was needed and it cost less than the Royal Mail collection fee then it could work fab.
Or, if sending over £50 of items then the 30p collection fee probably wouldn’t matter as much than if sending a low cost item so could use both companies depending on item price.
Are the labels still Royal Mail ones and are the parcels still collected by the postie?
Lou x
Yes it looks to be - I’ve got my first booking being collected on Monday, but it looks to be exactly the same. If it’s any different I’ll come back and let you know!
So just to update, my post has been collected by the usual postie and with a normal RM label ![]()
Not wishing to pour water on it, I’m pretty sure that they will catch up at some point - they’re probably having to update their IT to get it to be able to charge the collection fee since RM introduced it. They took a little while to update Click and Drop with it, so I’m sure 3rd party systems will take a little longer…
Here’s hoping you save lots in the meantime! ![]()
Oh I don’t doubt it for a second Debbie - still, it’ll be good while it lasts! ![]()
I had a click and drop collection pick up this morning, 4 items.
The first three I booked on last night and was charged the usual 30p each collection fee.
But the add on item this morning, there was no charge to pay!
The exact same happened to me.
Managed to add an additional pick up to the booked collections this morning with no extra charge.
30p per collection is much more reasonable than 30p per item, so hope this works in the future.
What generally happens if the postie doesn’t collect your parcel as arranged? He was due to collect mine by 10.26, but I think he went past. Is the collection automatically rescheduled for the next day, or do I have to rearrange it?
The only reason I did it this way since the extra charge was introduced is because my printer’s still playing up and I wanted the label!
Hi! I’ve had the situation with them not turning up for a scheduled collection but it was before the 30pence thing - so I just rearranged it.
Since the charge has come in I was also wondering what would happen if they didn’t turn up.
I looked at the bottom of one of my confirmation emails and found this - hope it helps! ![]()
“If you have any queries about payments, please contact us. If you would like to apply for a refund, please refer to our ‘Applying for a refund’ help article.”
I saw a postie walk past my house when I had booked a collection and he said that a different postie was coming to collect, so hopefully this is the same for you @TheHermitsBothy
I hope so Brenda! @teabreaks
I can’t find any way on their website to re-arrange a collection, but I’d rather not cancel because when I buy it again I’ll get a different tracking number, and I’ve already emailed my customer (mainly to apologise for not including a printed receipt) and told her the first tracking number! I hate messing people about, it comes across as unprofessional. I emailed RM to ask what I should do, and apparently they’ll get back to me within 4 working (Mon-Fri) days!
I hate things like this! Next time I’ll take it to the Post Office, but tbh I’ve never sent tracked from the PO before, and wasn’t sure whether I’d have to provide the customer’s email address etc for the tracking. They always have a queue and tbh they’re pretty slow and ‘faffy’, and I always leave more stressed than when I went in!
