Temporary closing

I’m going to hospital for an operation next week. Should I temporarily close my shop or is there a way I can leave it open and post a message to say I won’t be able to send stuff out next week?

Thanks in advance.

You could put your shop in holiday mode to be on the safe side, but with a message to say it’s hospital not holiday. I guess you need to think about whether you will really feel like taking on the commitment of sending out stuff after your op when you might not feel up to it. Anyway I wish you well and a speedy recovery.

Thank you - I know there’s a holiday setting - but I’m not sure where you can add a note.

You can add a note that shows at the top of your shop if you go into your shop settings on the dashboard - the field ‘your shop announcement’ is where you can put a message giving details about when you’re likely to be back, etc. I use mine to mention about postage, updates like covid or last order dates, that sort of thing. Good luck with your op, hope you have a speedy recovery! x

THat’s great - thank you!

Good luck with your op.

Thank you!

Hi,

I didn’t close during my move and presently have half a kitchen but I’m still making salves and butters (must be mad!!)
I did however put an anouncement out on both my web pages explaining that I couldn’t process orders but people still ordered. I think if you just go with an announcement you have to accept that not everyone reads them!
Good luck with everything and hope you are better soon xx

Thank you - that’s what I decided to do. I’ll leave the shop open but have explained the situation and said I’ll sending items from the following Monday.

People often just look at the item rather than the shop so are likely to miss messages unless they are on the item listing. Might be better to increase the despatch time on your listings temporarily - though you might need to go through each listing individually to do this and then to return them to normal as not sure if there’s a bulk edit on this.

Thanks!

Mind you, with over 125 lines in the store that may take a while!

@feelfeltfound The good thing about Folksy’s shop announcement is that it shows at the top of all the listing pages too, not just on the main shop front.

I didn’t know that - thanks!
