Weekly Art Chat Thread W/C 28th April

I have just ordered his foliage brush…I have other brushes that are the equivalent of ones he uses, so this is the only one that I really need…most of us have riggers etc…and I have foliage brushes but they are tiny for aceos…which I why I thought I would order his slightly larger one…On the SAA site , the whole set of his brushes, including a case is £99…too dear for me…
Trevor…mmm…sssh…whisper,whisper…

Wow! No brushes are worth that much!!

I agree Margaret but I suppose that is how they make their money…and by getting paints with their names printed on the tubes…and writing books etc…I doubt if many artists could make a living just by selling paintings…it is the extras that make up the money for them.

Hmm… wonder if I can start my own range of cameras…

Badge engineering of course…

Morning everyone, I treated myself to one of his brushes a sword I think it’s called, not used it yet! but am determined to get my watercolours out this bank holiday weekend and to paint something bigger than an ACEO! it’ll probably end up in the bin though lol!.

Morning all, nice bright start to the day…

Quick visit for now, not feeling all that clever at the moment, so going for a jug of coffee and a sit back for a while… Meanwhile, here’s a new one for today, a sister picture to one I had previously listed and that has now expired:

Brenda/Margaret that is a lot of money for brushes, but I suppose if you’re starting out and don’t have any then it’s not too bad if it’s the full set.

Such a pretty butterfly Jeanie, I like your pink tinted paper too, it suits the subject well.

Lovely cottage on the river Trevor.

Gorgeous sunflower Hazel, I really like that one - it looks so wild and free.

Fab beach painting Brenda. Have you seen that British Crafters are having a beach day on fb?

Super spring flowers Max. I love this time of year, it’s so colourful!

Here’s my new one for today - these fuchsias are growing over my neighbour’s wall

Love the fuchsia! Steph… the background on my butterfly is actually white…My camera does not do white!! it is such a pain
Jeanie x

Oh that is a nuisance Jeanie. Have you tried altering the white balance? Either on your camera or in a package like Picassa?

What’s this I read Brenda touching Trevor!!??

Margaret for an example Terry does a fan brush, you can get one cheaper from Jacksons, I have tried them both and they are both good.

Brenda have a look on Terry’s website or at his entries on the
SAA site as he does workshops in LOTS of different places and one of these days he’ll be down your way.

Good luck with your sale Tessa. Will you be restocking your shop?

I’ve never got on with fan brushes, but after the Monet workshop I did I am looking for a decent softish fan brush for oil painting. Not a watercolour one because they separate too quickly, but not a hog one either as they’re too stiff. Any suggestions?

This is the one I’m thinking of

Probably Stephie.
I would recommend the Jacksons one it’s softer than bristle and not as stiff as a synthetic one. I onlu use it with watercolour so maybe it’s the one you’ve got.

Love the fuchsia Stephie, your sketches in sepia are really special

Love the butterfly Jeanie

Waving Tessa

Hope I haven’t missed anyone out, on my phone so can’t see back up the thread now … I’m just having a break, been painting a peacock !!!

Show you later …

Tessa, I am friends with Terry Harrison on facebook and I keep leaving hints…lol…I even told him that he could stay here…I have spare bedrooms…he can bring his wife…lol…

I also hinted to Bill Lupton that no one seems to come to Wales. I suppose I was spoilt when I lived in London…everything was so close.

Stephie, there are some brushes that are £99 EACH…
my favourite brush is a battered old cheap bristle brush that I use for stippling…
Trevor I’ll come and paint your shed…now then…£5,000.05p is that ok?..I will deduct the 5p for a cuppa
Stephie I bought a badger fan brush that I quite like…I suppose it all depends on what paints you are using and what effects you want. I recently bought a set of angular brushes as I had been watching Su Scheewe demos and she uses them all the time. There were reasonably priced as well and I like them. The reason for Terry’s foliage brush is that despite having LOADS of brushes, it is more the SIZE of this one that I need…I have large and small but this seems to be in the middle.
Lovely fuschia Stephie
Jean what a pretty butterfly…
Nice picture Trevor…is that the shed?
Hazel, lovely sunflower…nice and summery

Afternoon All … I have been playing hooky from work today and have been having fun in my little studio area … something a bit different day …

I mentioned on facebook this morning I was looking for inspiration it was suggested I might try a Peacock, so here is a Peacock … Art In Wax Style
