Weekly Art Chat Thread W/C 28th April

Running though again as I forgot to buy some blue tac and I need it to attach all my labels for my exhibition tomorrow so off to the shops again!

Heres my new tiger acrylic painting, I think it was Stephie that asked when my Steampunk event was - its this Sunday and Monday. Really looking forward to it and my mum is helping out on the Monday so looking forward to spending the day with her!

That is fab Clare … I gave away my tiger card I bought from you some time ago now this morning … It was perfect for the person we have sent it too, but I almost didn’t want to part with it …

I would love to paint in a tiger in wax … I have drawn a couple but each time I try in wax, it doesn’t flow … you have mastered them very well

In that case Brenda maybe your hubby could be persuaded he needs a holiday in an area where Terry is teaching…or drop a hint to Father Christmas or the birthday and anniversary fairy lol

No Brenda, the shed’s bigger than that… Afraid you’re too expensive for my pocket Brenda - looks like I’ll have to paint it myself. Now, where’s my watercolours…?

I don’t paint sheds … But I do have one in my lounge

So cute Hazel, is that Adrian’s latest project?

Yes, I bought him a kit, which is just the box bit for Christmas and he had been building it on and off since then. He added the ship lap, built the bench, created a floor and strip light etc. and we have picked up a few bits as you can see from the fairs we have been too … It’s a fun hobby, although we don’t have room for more … Although I’d love a beach hut designed as my studio lol

Glad you like the peacock  it was fun - I might do a few more ā€œdifferentā€ subjects

I highly recommend a HUGE variety of subjects Hazel - you know me, I can’t stick to one thing for long

Great work Clare and good luck with the event. I was hunting for some blutac this morning as I wanted to take some pics of more cards I had painted and they wouldn’t lie flat…I thought of taking pics of them in polybags like Hazel did but I would only get reflection so I had to use some low tac tape and hope it didn’t leave a mark…all went well…phew.
Trevor…I sincerely hope the shed is painted purple with glitter…I did that to my garage…a girl has to have standards.
Hazel…great peacock…lots of steady hand work going on there.
Tessa, that would not be a problem and hubby would be willing to suggest it…the problem is that he won’t go anywhere without me (aaah) and he wouldn’t want a lesson as well. He doesn’t drive, so the end product would be of him sitting in a hotel room all alone and that would make me feel too guilty. He is over generous and I daren’t say I want something as it would be mine before I blink.
We went to the NEC 2 years ago to the the hobbies and handicrafts exhibition and of course he had to tag along…but every few mins he had to stop because his back was aching and it spoilt it for me (and him).
He is always looking at painting holidays but doesn’t think about the problems involved. For me…I could quite happily go on my own…lol…

That one of the things I like about your work Stephie - always something new.

I do love to experiment in wax and as we know try new things - so will be experimenting with subjects more too … I do sometimes doodle a sketch on paper before I paint in wax, just to keep me on the right lines … The pens you use are they especially for watercolour paper? I would love to have a go at the ink style sketching or my case doodling

Sooooo true Brenda And thank you

Er… no…

Fab work everyone, . Hazel

Shush! don’t tell Brenda! x

Yay for purple!

Hazel the pens I use are not specific to watercolour paper, but since I add quite a lot of water if I didn’t use watercolour paper I’d end up with cockles.

This is the sepia one, which is waterproof when it’s dry and watersoluble when it’s wet

and this is the black one that goes into lots of colours when water is added and is watersoluble forever

The black one needs less water adding, so you can use this on a 300g+ card. It will cockle cartridge paper.

Thanks for the info Stephie I think I might treat myself, I have a little pocket pad which says it’s …

" … top quality heavy watercolour paper, 200gsm, 25% cotton fibre cold pressed, acid free "

Which I doodle on with my watercolor pencils - would this work with the pens ?

I’m not sure Hazel, I’ve never used anything less than 300gsm. If it’s alright with watercolour pencils then it should be ok with the pens as it’s a similar process. I can post you a piece of Bockingford 300gsm to try if you like.

Thank you that is very kind of you Stephie, but I do have some 300gsm Bockingford but its larger sheets and thought it might be fun to use this little moleskin pad I have, I have ordered the black pen for now and will see how I go …

Thanks again for the info and advise …

Hazel
